Hi all,

Anyone living in (or having lived in) Zug know if it's a general thing in the area or just my supply that means I get some real hefty residues in the kettle after just a couple of days? It's almost like living in a hard water area in the UK, but speeded the process up.

I've been drinking it from the tap for the last 5 weeks and seems to taste fine, so I'm assuming it's safe COUGH to SPLUTTER drink?

The tap water throughout most of CH is hard, because of the granite rocks that it passes over and through - full of natural minerals and healthy - but a bugger for the appliances.

Many products and cleaning methods have been discussed, here before, and a simple search of the forum, should reveal all.

As far as Zug is concerned I would imagine that this is, too, the case, regarding the hard water, and nothing out of the ordinary.

Yes, the water in Zuger area is very hard, but all good and safe to drink Have lived here more than 3 years now and everyone around us inkluding our selves drink tap water. Tastes great, we think

Buy a Brita filtering jug and use its filtered water to boil in your kettle - saves all that de-chalking hassle. You can find it in a big Migros.

We've been drinking cold tap water for almost five years - we're a little nutty some days but that's probably down to our genes and not much to do with Zug water.

Even our dog loves Swiss water - she won't touch French or German water unless she's very, very thirsty.

I think it's safe but the calc is too much... It makes me feel dehydrated all the time and it's not so soft on the skin as I tend to need moisturiser in the winter due to the cold and hard water combination I believe... I am not 100% sure about the dehydration problem but the dry skin and effect on clothes washing is fairly noticeable.

I would recommend using a filter for coffee machines and Irons as it makes the process of cleaning them a lot easier!

Not granite - that's an igneous rock (from lava) and releases not much in the way of minerals. The water passes over sedimentary rocks (from living things - bones and shells) and this releases calcium and other minerals that contribute to hardness in water. However, yes, hard water isn't usually harmfull.

My apologices for my lack of knowledge about the properties of water in Zug, but I live in Zug and water contains a lot of limescale (kalk), doesn't it? Is it good for the body?
