| | What food should I bring from UK to Zurich
If anyone wants to meet me and buy me a drink once my furniture arrives, I might be able to smuggle some essentials in for you....
I get that I need to bring brown sugar... muscovado, light or dark or all?
What about marmite?
cadburies chocolate? (yes, like taking charcoal to Newcastle, but my kid's bribe of choice are Freddy Frogs)
What else is lacking?

Good cheddar cheese, smoked bacon, marmite, hellmans (€5 a small jar in France) and a years supply of The Sunday Times. | This user would like to thank FabrizioM for this useful post:

Peanut butter, unless you like it with added sugar, salt, and palm oil.
(Although you can easily buy the peanuts and make your own )

Hi!
I have just recently moved here myself and stocked up on the cadburys chocolate, for me it was cadburys caramel, so if your children are fans of freddies, you will definatley need to bring lots of them out with you! | This user would like to thank VickiK for this useful post:

When I go back to the UK I stock up on ... peanut butter (can get it here, but better choice in the UK), bacon, HP sauce (cheaper), roast duck (from Chinatown) and then whatever takes my fancy as I walk around a Waitrose.
I often buy Japanese soy sauce and tins of coconut milk as I go through quite a lot, especially the coconut milk, and it's under half the price in Chinatown London.
There's nothing I really crave, apart from a decent fish & chips in the cold weather, that I can't get here, or can't live without.

Sunday Times..... I'm more of an Observer person myself, but I'm sure T'internet can provide. |

I'm moving to Zurich (hence the title of the thread )....... I'm sure I can get most things, or at least decent alternatives. But life without Marmite would be intolerable!
I've gathered that there is a severe lack of brown sugar and ice in the area, and am prepared to become a dealer in the brown stuff........ as long as the jail term for smuggling it in to the country isn't too long.

Robinsons orange squash!!
This may well be of equal importance to your kids..as well as me.
Personally I love it - and the syrups they have here instead of fruit squash just aren't the same! I am working my way through all of them to find something similar though...
The other problem with this is it can't be taken in hand luggage on a plane, and it weighs loads for a small amount - so I haven't brought any back here yet or ordered any online...

I always bring over Bisto gravy, cant have a sunday dinner without it in our house! Parsnips would complete the perfect roast but the lack availability here is a constant disappointment |

I wouldn't eat Cadbury's chocolate if they gave it away for free...
Last time I came over I bought baked beans, custard, golden syrup, peanut butter, ribena and tea bags.

Tea, cooking sauces, your fave biscuits: the selection around here isn't great. BIG cereal boxes if you have the space. My local Coop only has boxes of Crunchy Nut cornflakes up to 375g.
Baked beans? haha - only cos around here you'll be forking out 2 quid per tin!

Just because Switzerland is a good source for chocolate doesn't mean other places aren't! Cadbury's chocolate is really good IMO, and much much cheaper. The grotty stuff is American. Hershey's is bland and synthetic.
But as for food to bring over, and presuming you're driving, I'd agree with much of what's been said -- baked beans, Branston Pickle, HP sauce, soy sauce, your favourite brand of muesli/breakfast cereal, chilli, crisps etc. But I also agree with @adrianlondon that yes, there are things I miss but there are plenty of compensations for most things.
