Re: Help me drink tap water please!

If only you drank alcohol. Then I'd recommend adding copious amounts of ice-cubes to a nice whiskey or rum-cola.

Re: Help me drink tap water please!

I am not too big on water either, I actually really like it but my stomach gets weird if I just put plain water in it. If I exercise a lot, though, my water intake doubles no problem, and I really enjoy it too, since you get really thirsty. Plus, having anything else and imagining me on the treadmill wants the plain old water a lot more than...say a Coke, hahaha.

So, if you can, go for a run in the morning, and drink a liter while you run/after you get back, you will start liking it, then a few glasses in the afternoon and you are all set.

Or, alternatively, Tetley is starting to sell cold fruit and herbal infusions here next week, make your own, but with cold water not hot, looks fab and has almost zero cals.

I actually read that the tap water in ZURICH is better than bottled water.

If you really want to make yourself drink your tapwater, despite not really liking it, you can add a squirt of lemon juice. Not enough to add sugar and calories, but enough to add a bit of something elseness to the water, in order to make it less bland.
Try this: a few slices of cucumber, a few sliced strawberries, and ice. Let it rest in the fridge for a bit first. Yummm!!

It is, without a doubt. Bottled (still) water is awful if you ask me.

I don't like the taste (or rather lack thereof) of tap water here and I really want to drink more. I don't want to add syrups or fruits etc, I just want to drink plain old tap water. I am aware that there are some filtering devices that one can purchase that attach to the tap. Does anyone know if these change the taste of the water at all? Any tips on how I can overcome this silly aversion of mine
I have the same problem I rarely drink tap water, except when really, really thirsty. I even drank coke in between kickboxing bouts.
However I just finished shovelling the grit off an area maybe 20X 30 meters over 3 days in what the weather forecast describes as humid, Temperature 86.2 °F Feels Like 92 °F. I started off with water mixed with ice, orange juice and Sprite. I rarely sweat, but sweated so much that my sweat s no longer salty- weird. I ended up guzzling down just water so fast it was spilling over drenching me, so you will drink it when you need to. Try drinking iced water with meals. My mum used to run the taps for 2 minutes every morning. I still do it but not that long.

Re: Help me drink tap water please!

Just remember if you're sweating a ton that you need to replenish the salt in your body, so either eat something salty, add salt to your drinks (just a tad is enough), or even just eat a few pinches of salt.

That could be quite true, tap water is controlled strictly by the lebensmitellverordnung bottled water is too but not as hard.

All drinking water has to be passed by the CH food regualtors...
..and why does that sentence disturb me?

Re: Help me drink tap water please!

The easiest way around this is just to start drinking a tiny glass when you get in from work or when you get up in the morning or something...it's just about getting used to it in my opinion

One thing would be to sue a Britta filter thingy. However, another solution would be to boil the water first. Have you tried that already.

Umm, clean water has no taste.
Well, since you smoke..obviously nothing has a taste.
However, a nonsmoker like myself can detect differences in water as each water varies in the amount of minerals it contains.

If you're really convinced it's nasty, just try to imagine that the pipes leading into your house are bringing your water straight from the springs at Evian.

Do you like fizzy water? If so then get a soda stream. Or buy bottled water and drink that. Try a few - they do actually have different tastes.

For me it's all about temperature. I can't drink water from the tap because it's just not cold enough. Put it in a jug in the fridge and then it's fine!
Same here! I can't stand room temperature water. If it's really cold then I love it.

Re: Help me drink tap water please!

I'd go along with the Brita water filter suggestion. The quality tends to depend on where you live, and the type of rock the water has been filtered through.

The Helvetic Alps are mostly Mesozoic marine limestone http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helvetic_Zone and therefore contain a lot of calcium, whereas where my family live in Cornwal, most of the stone is Granite, and the water is crystal clear and the kettle rarely needs descaling.

Failing that, drink beer instead

Re: Help me drink tap water please!

I second the beer suggestion!

Alternatively you can fill one of those plastic drinks bottles (the type that sports people use) and sip from that. For some reason it's easier to keep one of those on the go and glug from that rather than from a glass.

The flavour doesn't change (so long as it's fresh) but somehow it's just easier to get down... Or maybe that's just me..

At last I meet someone the same. My dad thinks I am weird for not liking water as he says water has no taste, well everything has a taste and i struggle to drink water too. It has to be ice cold and I have to be very thirsty, but I have to say swiss tap water does taste much better than what I was used to back home.

I recently bought a water bottle (the ones with the little drink spout) it has a filter device in the bottle that last 6 months - can't remember the make/name I will check with I am back home - but I fill this up and keep it in the fridge so its nice and chilled and then it supposedly filters as I drink

Hey Meisie Meisie(are you a Kurt Darren fan by any chance?(only people
with a SA connection will understand)..why not drink coke light in this
heat..it's so refreshing..nothing like an iced cold coke light with a slice
of lemon and lots of ice..and you don't have to worry about the calories,
and it's not too unhealthy..well,besides the acid aspect for the teeth
I think it sure beats any tap water..(no,I don't work for Coca-Cola

Great advice!

Diet drinks (as much as I am an addict of them) are really not good for you. I also read a recent report stating that diet drinks make you fat (explains a lot!)

I also read that report..dunno if I believe it though..I find that when
I watch what I eat,I can drink as much coke light as I like and the weight
falls off..anyway,just my 2 cents worth.
