Re: Last Supper

Been reading through this thread and got me thinking. Was never a lover of fish and chips......but.......I am so missing scampi now. So thanks everyone, all this food talk has now got me missing something I had completely forgotten about until I read all of you!

Must admit one of my expat things I won't give up is my roast, I do one most Sundays

A proper, home-made Cornish pasty followed by an equally proper and delicious Cornish cream tea

No shortage of kebabs in Switzerland!
You are so wrong. I have found hardly any kebab in Zurich that would not be illegal in Germany!

Making a giant "burger on a stick" of minced meat is not a döner kebab, but cheap trash. So you don't only pay 10 CHFs for it, you get nothing near the real deal. Storing the cooked meat it in a warm box at some 40 degrees for hours instead of just serving it fresh from the stick must be a feast for bacteria...

Re: Last Supper

This thread made me so jealous last night... was too busy drooling to reply!

Fish and chips sound good... but I'm surprised no-one's mentioned Chinese Takeaway. Can't find a decent one here.

However, I must admit, what I miss most are Twiglets. My friends post them to me sometimes...

The last time I had a bag I was eating them in the bath (); the cat came in and knocked the bag on the floor... I'm not the only Twiglet lover in my flat!

Yep, we're so desperate for fish & chips here that we'll meet you at the airport with a stomach pump.
I would gladly bring you fish and chips anytime, especially as I just looked into using your EasyJet tip for my first trip back (son's birthday) and it would save me £20!!

Re: Last Supper

Another useless fact - why is Stilton called Stilton, if Stilton is not made there?

Because this is the location on the A1 where all the producers from Leics and Notts would deliver for transport to London.

Gorgonzola isn't made any more in Gorgonzola, either (it's been made in Novara for decades, if not longer), and Pecorino Romana has been made in Sardegna (rather than in Rome) for as long as well.

It's called progress.

This is why:

"Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is a type of red wine made from the Montepulciano wine grape in the Abruzzo region of east-central Italy. The grape is however recommended for 20 of Italy's 95 provinces.[1] Up to 10% Sangiovese is permitted to be added to the blend. It is typically a dry wine with soft tannins, and is therefore often consumed young. The Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is classified as DOC and DOCG in Teramo (where it is officially called Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Colline Teramane). If aged by the winery for more than two years, the wine may be labeled "Riserva." [2] This wine should not be confused with Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, a Tuscan wine made from Sangiovese and other grapes, but not the Montepulciano variety."

Likewise, "Prosecco" isn't made in Prosecco!

Chicken döner is actually ok here - it's the beef that's expensive, so that's where they save...

Maybe you poor Zurichers just don't have anything good in that fancy pants town of yours, but here in Basel we can actually get very good lamb kebabs, and they're prettty cheap.

I am not surprised - I would actually expect to get a good one in Basel Gündülü.

So how cheap is "pretty cheap"?
