| | Easy to make recipes to break fast with
Alas...after 24 years I have found myself in the position of being alone during the month of Ramadan. This means I need to grow up and cook for myself.
It is also some of the longest fasts I've had to do. 03h30 until 21h08 So by the end my energy will be very down. Thanks to my Mother and and more recently Wife who would never complain about their lack of energy when cooking lovely things for me
So I'm looking for easy, quick, nutritious and most importantly delicious recipes for me to, or attempt to, cook during this most blessed of months...well until my Wife is back at least
I will also be testing out the local mosque's cuisine for the first time in my life...I shall report back
Thanks | The following 5 users would like to thank for this useful post:

I don't know how these things work. Are you allowed cook during the day and save the food until the fast ends at 9pm?

Make a stew or chilli con carne. Leave in the oven on 110c covered for the duration of the fast. On breaking the fast prepare some simple White rice and enjoy.
Do a BBQ. Marinate chicken thighs and wings for 24 hours in spices mixed with yoghurt. Then put on BBQ and they're ready in minutes.

I'd recommend porridge (I've just talked about it with a friend 2 hours ago!). I don't really like it but it has a low glycemic index and will keep you going for a while. http://ginews.blogspot.com/2005/11/l...-of-month.html | The following 3 users would like to thank zymogen for this useful post:

And if you don't want to eat meat, try smoked salmon scrambled eggs. Scramble some eggs with some cream and add torn smoked salmon or any flaked smoked fish like mackerel. Serve with sour cream mixed with chopped chervil or tarragon or even chives. And toasted bread and butter of course.

| | | | | Quaker Oats biggest business outside the US and UK is Saudi during Ramadan, so you won't be alone!

You want slow cook oats for the really low GI.

Yes the thicker coarser the better for slow release of energy. I mix 1 pack of the thick rolled oats from Coop (red packet) and 1 pack normal oats. Just right.

As everything is.

My family in South Africa are having it 'easy' this year as it is winter there and days are short. Hard for you. What do Muslims do in the far Northern countries?
