Re: Has GG got competition?

Is this bit meant to be parody?

Quote:
Jeremy Bowen of the high-end artisan cheese sellers Paxton and Whitfield was supportive of the Alex James Presents line, which will be available solely at Asda from Monday. "Alex has gone for these hot-damn funky cheese slices that you can put in a sarnie or a toastie or a jacket potato, and I suppose I'm thinking: why the hell not? What Alex is trying to do is just reach people, and that means everybody out there," he said.

"They are cheeky price points, they are yummy, they are not difficult to understand. He wants to introduce the great and the good and the unwashed to cheese. He's offering a pick and mix, grab and go collection."

People don't really talk like that - do they?

It's exclusively reserved for people paid 60p a word.

I guess they do when they are getting a bit of free publicity. Not very high-end though ...

Re: Has GG got competition?

One of the artisanal cheese makers near Seattle started dusting their cheddar curds with chipotle pepper powder before forming and aging. It was actually rather tasty.

Now that sounds very nice. I love Cornish yarg, which is a semi-hard cheese, wrapped in nettles.

However, both of the above are wholesome cheeses with a little natural embellishment, not dissimilar to blue veining. A million miles, of course, from the horrible, pre-fab, plasticky excuse for cheese that Mr ex Blur is coming up with (probably full of E numbers too)

I can check next time I am in Asda. I think that sampling would be beyond the call of duty though

Re: Has GG got competition?

And seeing this has turned into a rant thread, are the kids in the UK really too stupid not to put in whatever age they want to get into a beer site on the Internet? Or are the government going to prosecute, or are the adults that freaking stupid. Thank F**k I left that place!

If you can access BBC iPlayer you can hear an interview with Alex James. It starts at around 2:12:45

I'd rather listen to an interview with Jamie Oliver.

And I never thought I'd ever say that!

I really can't imagine any Swiss person even wanting to try this garbage.
Agreed, but I know a Brit who'd happily give it a go

Re: Has GG got competition?

I want to taste it. When I worked for the really nice Dutch producer, it was shockingly the "cheese alternative" made in Greece that sold millions, and it was not even a cheese.

Perhaps Alex's taste buds are not to be trusted? I am surprised his nose is still functioning. Now if he'd spent a million on port and pot perhaps these abominations would never have seen the light of day and he'd be pushing the virtues of a fine stilton..

I am not sure that pot is really good for the sense of smell over all.

I purchased a couple of these purely in the interest of research. I could only bring myself to try the safest options: Cheddar & Mozzarella blankets and Tomato Ketchup blankets.
Taste wise: Nothing special and not in a hurry for more.

Product details:
"For perfect results use straight from the fridge"
CHEESE ... but not as you know it
Full Fat Hard Cheese with Tomato Ketchup
Added Ingredients;
Tomato Sauce (10%)
Allergy Advice:
Cheese: contains Milk, Celery.
Keep refrigerated. Best consumed within 3 days of opening.

That tells us everything we need to know.

Thank you, Mr Purple. You did a thing way above the call of duty.

Do you need a peppermint?

I think that I will survive, thanks. As it only keeps for 3 days, even in the fridge, also says a lot about it.
