Migros cuts prices of some imported goods by 20%

We had a thread the other day about Coop not wanting to sell certain imported brands, well, our local Migros just launched a campaign reflecting the strong franc situation.

They have a price cut by 20% on some foreign brands, I just saw it on Saturday.

I wonder how long it will last and if it is everywhere, or only in areas pushed by cheap chains over the border, but weehee!

Re: Migros cuts prices of some imported goods by 20%

I was in coop on saturday and the german chicken breast was about 15-20% cheaper than the swiss version. Not only was I surprised by the price differential but also by the fact that there was now some choice!

Re: Migros cuts prices of some imported goods by 20%

Great! The Aldi and Lidl expensive domestic meat will make me go shop in Migros. I knew all this patriotic Migros stuff was just a way to get more loyal customers, and a marketing scheme, but I am thrilled how fast the biz minds operate these days! I am sure German chickens are awesome.

Re: Migros cuts prices of some imported goods by 20%

we have a local lidl and I do much shopping there. my only reservation is the quality of the meat (mainly imported). on the other hand milk and other basics are much cheaper than in migros and coop and frankly there is little if any difference in quality

I wonder why we only pretty much have CH meat in our local Lidl and Aldi, might be a cantonal rule ...When they opened, and it was pretty recently, the meat was really ok, and it was mostly German.

sorry, I wasn't clear. the meat is a mix of swiss and imported, but I meant to say that the imported stuff is not as good.

Re: Migros cuts prices of some imported goods by 20%

I only didn't like the Lidl minced beef. I have a grounder so it is better to get meat and grind it myself. But the chicken and pork, turkey especially, was really a ok.

Will check out Migros and their meat section. I prefer local butcher if he wasn't so expensive and if he actually stored the meat properly, a couple of times I got meat that was dead for too long, obviously. Sticky.

I am glad Migros is acting, though.

Re: Migros cuts prices of some imported goods by 20%

We have three in a tiny area and one of them is nice, the other will either sell you sticky old smelly stuff or growl at you, when they find out from your accent you are foreign. So, I take my biz to that one awesome one, I go there like once every few months, since it is expensive. But fresh, nice jambon, oooooh. With mash taters, aaaah. And a local freind just directed me to these special liver balls wraped in skin, holy, you supposed to bbq them, I can't wait to test them. You can only get them at a local butcher.

Local Migros do make their fresh produce attractive, though, fish on the ice counter, veggies and fresh bread is nice. But, it is not cheap. I found out Lidl is much better stocked, and Aldi, too, at 9am, as opposed to 5pm. I know, heureka, hahaha, but I was shocked to see how nicely they present their stuff early in the morning, while at 5pm, it's mostly gone.

I haven't noticed anything dramatic like that in zurich as far as prices go. Maybe I'm buying all the wrong stuff.

Re: Migros cuts prices of some imported goods by 20%

It's a campaign, you see these banners everywhere when you enter Migros here, maybe it will come to your part too. Just found some writing on it (Fr), as per our press here, apparently more than 500 products will be discounted due to strong franc. According to the article Denner is discounting, as well.
