anyone know of a good way to cut soreen without squishing it?
Buy it sliced

I love it too. Esp with the thick slice of cold butter, slightly salted, on top. The only other thing I ate with so much butter on top is a slice of Birnbrot. That also goes really well with cheese.

If anyone is really desperate, I could send you a pack or two of Soreen.

I have to ask:

Is this mythological brown sugar the brownish unprocessed cane sugar? Because I see tons of it on the shelves in the local Migros, so I am not sure if I should give people a heads up, or wether this is the wrong stuff...

Bummer... I thought I had made the find of the year and was eager to share it with all the brown sugar addicts I saw it today at lunch time when I went to buy a Kitkat, and thought about you guys...

Re: Soreen Malt Loaf?

Here's a sugar tutorial, that is if you give a damn.
I think there is also a lengthy thread on the EF about the hopeless brown sugar quest.

Thanks for the info Sagitta Yeah, I've heard the EF's quest for brown sugar a couple of times, that's why I was kinda excited when I saw the raw sugar. I thought raw=brown...

I'll keep a more discerning eye now! I'm a clear sugar girl, but I keep thinking about the people in the forum when I go shopping for sugar/candy ^^

Re: Soreen Malt Loaf?

Thanks Tom Tulpe for the Saint Delia recipe. I have brown sugar (Gasp! Yes genuine Billington's muscovado! And I have Lyles black treacle too. Oh, and just to make you all jealous, Lyles golden syrup as well
Now, need to work out exactly where to get malt extract from, and I could set up a mini Soreen factory in my kitchen!

I got it the second time I read it. The first time, my brain read it as I wrote it. I'm sure there's a German word for that.

Maybe here.

This could be worth a go - mixed with some treacle .... interesting if nothing else.

Lardy cake ... anyone?

In German it's Malzextrakt (French - extrait de malt) . I bet it could be found at a Reformhaus without too much difficulty.

Re: Soreen Malt Loaf?

I was about to have my Tea At Three (Soreen's finest malt loaf and a nice cup of EG with lemon), and I thought I should share it with you all

(btw ,the recipe given in an earlier post is slighty wrong - proper malt loaf has raisins in it, not sultanas )

It's a Mackintosh Rose-motif Mug, e-e-e-ctually - a design classic
