Did an experiment last night (with neighbours flat pans) and I think it's only the big back burners, which is a shame as I use the back burners to cook because I have a very 'helpful' toddler. But also means it's probably a dud coil.
Might be a good thing. At least you might be able to demonstrate that it's half borked.

I must be the only one who enjoys cooking on his electric thingy. It's a Siemens glass one and looks something like this-

i used to use only gas. but i find the halogen hobs to be pretty usable now. certainly a far cry from the horrible ceramic type hobs which take an age to warm up and cool down.

Re: Hob is rubbish......so buy new pans?

Certainly heavy, good quality double copper bottom (totally flat) pans really help and cut cooking time down. For rice, I put 1 cup of rice, 2 cups of boiling water from kettle- back to boil and turn off- then leave to steam.
If a coil is broken though - it may not help much! Why not a/ buy a hob guard from Mothercare for front of cooker to protect little one (they are not expensive- and are so worth it as 10000s of kids get badly burnt everyyear, mainly by pulling pans of boiling liquid over themselves)
and b/place of pan of cold water on the 'worst/slowest' ring and time it to boil - (video it if you can!)- then call agent again with proper evidence.

Is this the new way of "watching paint dry"?

OK. Here's the deal. Buy one pan, check if that fixes the solution. If it doesn't get a Swiss-speaking friend/neighbour/colleague to help show the guy it doesn't work.

Is life so complicated?

I did say that in the second post.

Life in EF is never straightforward.
