Re: Looking for kale (the vegetable)

Walked through Vevey last week and noticed Dinosaur/Tuscan kale mixed in with the flowers and growing in planters all over town. So tempting!

has anyone come across any kale around the horgen lakeside area?
thanks in advance for the info
Bettio in the Seedamm Center in Pfaffikon had it last night.

But, much near to Horgen, their veg distribution centre in Au apparently opens to the general public a few times a week.
Details here
I haven't been though.

Incidentally, the Seedam Center store was also selling local (Uetliberg) venison.

Re: Looking for kale (the vegetable)

I was fortunate this year to find it in the Manor, I had three meals with kale and it looks to be out of the short timeframe it is offered, I did talk to a local Italian shop that was going to try to bring some up (red flat leaf variety) from Italy.

Last fall a friend came to visit and she brought a mix packet of kale seeds... I started them with the miners lettuce seeds (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claytonia_perfoliata)
that I found at the Rägawurm bio store, I was so psyched to find them.

the round terracotta pot is the little sprouts of kale.

As a fellow Seattlite and kale aficionado, I wish you well in your kale-growing journeys! Would love to know that it goes well.

I used to make this every week or two: http://gastronomyblog.com/2012/03/31...les-with-kale/ and now I'm missing both the kale and soba noodles! Tonight I tried to substitute shredded zucchini and rice noodles. Wouldn't repeat. Need to get to the biggest migros and find some of the real stuff soon!

Re: Looking for kale (the vegetable)

Anyone seen Kale seeds for sale anywhere? I haven't. Thought about growing it on the farm this year, and have no idea how to ask anyone, in three surrounding countries where to find it.

I searched and searched when I got here in 2012, couldn't find, begged a friend to bring a pack when she came to visit.
I've seen them online, but none from a swiss online shop.

I picked up some medium height high yield kale seeds from the Lidl last week. The seed racks were still there yesterday. I've never grown vegetables before so it's a new project for me

Hey fellow Seattleite! I love soba noodles! that dish looks delish.
I think the season in nearly over here :-( ... it's been a week or 2 since the Manor had some. I miss my garden in Seattle... I could grow kale all winter long, let it self seed and nurse it thru August... and eat all winter and spring long, that and broccoli and beets.

Re: Looking for kale (the vegetable)

Thanks DB! I gave up looking last year after I got hand delivered a pack. I have an affinity for the less curled leaf structure of russian red kale, it's easier to clean the slugs out of. ..Seattle had lots of slugs.
