Rivella is all our teenage son pines for whenever we leave Switzerland, we are forced to hit the first roadway stop the minute we cross the border back on the way home.
Modern parents are so cruel: you could easily take one litre with you for each day out of the country. Such deprivation! He will never appreciate the cow bells if he doesn't get his regular Rivella!

Re: Rivella (warning: CH newbie alert)

I forget, was it the yellow that tasted something like Ginger-ale, or is it the green? That's the only one I even come close to liking, whichever it is.

It doesn't help that I don't care for the flavor of regular bottled water here anyhow, tastes very mineral-y. On the other hand, I do like the Volvic raspberry and other flavors, as well as the Henniez fruity water, most especially the Mango-Yuzu. That is very tasty!

Mein Gott! ..... how terrible.

Whatever you do, do NOT try milk - it contains even more than Rivella.
I know it's silly, but can't help it. It's just that I wasn't expecting milk in a fizzy drink.... Somehow it doesn't look so appealing...

Can it be less appealing than something containing the folloing ingredients: high fructuose corn syrup, caramel colour, caffeine, phosphoric acid, coca extract, kola nut extract, lime extract, vanilla and glycerine?

Yes, yes it can. Lots of things can. Carbonated potato soup, for instance.

I haven't tried it yet and after seeing these posts, I'm not sure I will. Give me the fizzy apple juice anyday, heaven.

I never drink the stuff either, but like CrazyGringo I found the empty bottles came in handy when camping. After an evening drinking too much beer, it is a long & dangerous walk, avoiding tent lines, to the toilets: So I fill up an old Rivella bottle and next morning nobody blinks an eyelid as I wander to the toilets carrying my full bottle of "Rivella"
And I suppose if the worst happens and somebody drinks it, are they really going to notice?

/me actually likes Rivella Blue. Mmmm.... Cheesy pop....

For all you women breast feeding, apparently drinking Rivella is very good for aiding milk production.

(I cannot substantiate this claim).

Can I clean my toilet with it? That is the only thing Coca Cola is good for...

(note from this Hausfrau... if you have calcium build up in your toilet bowl then pour a litre or so of Coca Cola in... leave overnight and give a scrub in the morning... hey presto it is like new) (and no it is not as effective if you let your body be the filter beforehand)

I disagree - Coke is an awesome ingredient in my BBQ sauce AND I just came upon (and tried) a cake recipe calling for Cherry Coke which was very very nice too.

I bet Rivella would be a good addition to pancake batter, the carbonation helping to make them lighter and fluffier while adding less sugar and other nasties compared to 7-UP or Sprite.

Of course, that's true for just plain carbonated water. It works because the carbonation produces carbonic acid in the water which lowers the pH to about about 3-4....the same as any carbonated beverage. The fact that you are using Coke versus any other carbonated beverage is irrelevant.

But because of the caffeine, Coke does it quicker.

Rivella is a household favorite for our family (except for my wife, who has far too distinguished a palette). it's actually very good as a sports drink, too, nothing better than a liter bottle to bring along on gamedays. those liter bottles come in handy on road trips into France, too, when the kids have been so spoiled by the Swiss sense of cleanliness that they refuse to use the facilities at the French rest stops.
My god, I think you have discovered the secret of free energy - kids drink rivella, use empty bottle instead of facilities, drink 'rivella', use empty bottle, drink 'rivella'...

Personally I like the original red version but one of my friends says it tastes like a medication.

I just did a quick search.

It's a myth according to the Association of Swiss Lactation Consultants

Rough translation:

Quote:
Lactic acid has nothing to do with the milk production in humans.
In every country there are milk-enhancing educational practice specialties nationwide. You certainly have an effect on the psyche and thus positive impact on milk production. An excess is not advised. Just as we recommend to drink 1-3 cups Milchbildungstee should also 1 - 2 glasses of Rivella suffice.

Hmm! Carbonated milk, what can go wrong?
And, do Swiss babies burp in Schwiizerdüütch?

I tried Rivella when I first moved here, but the taste was a bit funky. So I read the label and discovered that it's made from Cheese Water.... I decided to stick with diet Coke.

You did not expect it. Alright. But exactly THIS is the unique idea about it. I still remember the family meeting when my brother took the ugly bitter Pepita but they did not have either Orangina or Sinalco, and I was not exactly up for a Cola, and so, my Godmother (mentioned above) advocated Rivella which then was still relatively new on the market. And stated that it was an amazing mix of healthy milk with a fizzy mineral water and some spices added. Dad found it interesting and turned to his beer and mum (out of a family of wine-growers) turned to a glass of red wine and big brother (the personified opposition) uttered something like "we have to do with milk-drinks and the antiques have the real things"
