Auslady, when i first read about you wanting KFC for your son. I thought Aww how sweet that she is going to go to all that trouble to get her kid KFC.
Then i read that he is 21, and he wants to take you out for a meal.
Why don't you let him take you out for the meal. He may feel proud that he is earning and being able to invite his mum out. Dont burst his balloon.
And at another time you, as a family, take the trip to Mulhouse instead of doing the trip and having to re heat the chicken back at home.
Having only a distant memory of eating KFC (i think they left Geneva about 25 years ago) i would think the experience of eating it on site would be much better than re-heated two hours later.
They may even give him a party hat to put on.

Ladies and gents, after many years wait it's now possible to get close to the KFC experience in Zurich.
From April onwards the Restaurant Freihof in Altstetten has been offering Kentucky Style Fried Chicken, and I tried it today...
I thought it was a fair tribute to KFC, with another secret recipe of herbs and spices.. http://freihof-altstetten.vpweb.ch/default.html
Still missing the Biscuits and Gravy though ..
PS I have zero connection with the restaurant , so this is a public service post

But yeah, what gives with the fried chicken sides here in Europe? They're supposed to come with mashed potatoes and gravy, and a biscuit. But even KFC on this continent doesn't do that (and the euro-KFC gravy is all whacked, too).

| | | | | Different tastes over here.
Wouldn't it be boring if everything was the same?
And a biscuit in the U.K. is like your cookies. |

Do they serve them in buckets as an option?

And a biscuit in the U.K. is like your cookies. | | | | | I like variety if that variety is an improvement. But it's not. One would hope that they would get the basics right, and those kinda are the basics. But KFC in Europe is a pale imitation of American KFC, which itself is hardly the best example of fried chicken and the appropriate sides.
(UK KFC's gravy is an abomination. It's gritty and tasteless. American KFC's gravy is "meh". At least it's the right kind -- you use light gravy with poultry -- but it's not spectacular.)
(Yes, I know that UK English uses the word biscuit to refer to something else. But that's kinda irrelevant to this discussion.)

The 'menu' salad was not fresh, the chicken was tough and the coating too thin and bland, although yes, there was a hint of herbs in it.

We were back in the states recently after a long absence.
I was also eager to pick up a bucket of KFC... I must say I was disappointed. Maybe because we had it as take-away, and by the time we got it home it had steamed in it's own vapor, making it soggy, and anything but crispy.
The cole slaw, however, was awesome, just as I remembered it.
On our drive back to the airport, we stopped at a Church's fried chicken outlet along the highway (a popular fried chicken restaurant chain that exists only in the South).
It was AMAZING. So good, it was decadent. Now I think about Church's fried chicken on our next trip!

Ah, those lost days (nights) of my youth, when the way home from the pub didn't pass a kebab shop but did pass a KFC... |

I haven't read through 10 pages of KFC posts, but one just recently (so I have been told) opened in Singen at the REAL shopping center. Don't know how recently it opened but it is up and running.

That was post #190.
;-)
AFAIK, the opening was on July 7th.
It's at a roundabout next to OBI, Burger-King, McDonalds and a gas station.
Read about it in the newspaper while I was visiting my parents and thought of this thread ;-)
