"The calorie content of meals in UK restaurants is "excessive" and sit-down restaurants are unhealthier than fast-food chains, BMJ research suggests.
Health experts say meals should not exceed 600 calories, but in this study they averaged 1,033 in restaurants and 751 in fast-food chains.
University of Liverpool researchers analysed thousands of meals from places like Hungry Horse and McDonald's.
They said their findings were a cause for concern.
The research team looked at more than 13,500 meals on the menus of 21 sit-down restaurants and six fast-food chains.
By using online company information on calorie content, only one in 10 meals was classed as healthy or fewer than 600kcal, as recommended by Public Health England.
And nearly half of the meals contained 1,000kcal or more.
Sit-down restaurants were five times more likely to offer high-calorie meals of 1,000kcal or more than fast-food restaurants, the research found." https://www.bbc.com/news/health-46540132
Given the enormous portion sizes in the USA, they're probably even worse. | | | | | ... and all-you-can-eat buffets? I'd guess the average calorie count would be over 1500, maybe even 2000, as people "get their money's worth".

That study did not include drinks. Add a coke or fancy coffee or even a beer …

Kfc in Shoppyland opens tomorrow in Bern.
12.00
Now it is only 90 minutes away - hopefully they can maintain the quality.
Geneva went gradually downhill after the opening day. Undercooked 3 times in a row, so I stopped going.
Fingers crossed this time. | | | | | Went to KFC in shoppyland. Average quality.

If you cannot find KFC so easily, your house can still smell of it... https://whdh.com/news/kfc-selling-fi...fried-chicken/ | The following 2 users would like to thank Konuku for this useful post: | |

| | Re: KFC in Switzerland? | Quote: | | | | | After many years of KFC deprivation, I discovered during my trips to America that there are far superior fried chicken chains in the USA, in particular Popeyes and Churchs. But in general the stuff is probably the most unhealthy fastfood you can eat. I avoid them now. | | | | | Popeyes is basically very-tasty-garbage. A very strange reflection of choices will come over someone while waiting n' da' drive thro' for Popeye's Chicken, because they will always make you wait.
I am from the Midwest so I always preferred Lees' Famous Recipe Chicken https://www.leesfamousrecipe.com
Lee's Chicken seems to now have a lot more stores than I can remember. The quality always seemed to stay at Lee's. When KFC went crap about 20 years ago, Lee's always still had what I would call a very good fast food experience, with real food. Lee's could be a sit down kind-of place if you wanted, but 90+% of their business was selling a paper bucket full of chicken out the window.
They seem to have Kentucky Fried Chicken in many locations in Germany. I heard it was here, in Switzerland years ago and failed like Wendy's. I am surprised someone is investing to bring it back...

KFC is alive and well in Mendrisio. And it's close to Foxtown at that.

| | Re: KFC in Volketswil | Quote: | | | | | Has anyone been to KFC Volketswil? | | | | | Yes, I went there a few weeks back. The queue was long, but their service was efficient - while the line was across the foyer and out the door furthest from the counter, we were served in under 20 minutes.
The staff had a couple of clever tactics to help: one of them went down the line every five minutes, to ensure those waiting had a copy of the menu so they could choose on the way, and they had two of their three counters taking orders while the third was just for picking up your completed order.
The food tasted good. We chose not to take advantage of the unlimited drinks - one was enough.

Hope they would open one in Baden but if not then I'll have to pay a visit to Zurich to satisfy my craving!

Hope they would open one in Baden but if not then I'll have to pay a visit to Zurich to satisfy my craving! | | | | | From what I know they failed once before in Switzerland? So they might be cautious, take it slowly.
Also if they keep it "special", they keep up the interest? ("I'd walk a mile for a Camel", LOL). McDonalds is everywhere. Is there a thead here about it?
I understand someone driving from Baden to Volketswil for it. If it feels like home or brings up memories, one does all kinds of stuff and it's only 40 minutes - I often drive further just to have dinner with friends.
