Maybe you guys can try this well known restaurant my home town in Tuggen, SZ that serves only grilled chicken and chips and salad... People from all over CH come to eat their chicken, I hear...
So far, all my guests and family love their chicken.... but I personally like KFC and El Pollo Loco as well.
Another thing that I miss and missing from Switzerland is a good spare rib and Black Angus Steak place...!!
or Red Lobster too... LOL

Is there a KFC in Zurich? I'm going to have a few visitors who are big KFC fans (and I must admit I enjoy it every now and again despite not being at all into fast food). I tried to have a look around but ended up with nothing (which might very well indicate that there are no KFC around ;-)
Cheers | | | | | There were some KFC in Switzerland including at least one in Zurich, but the chain in Switzerland went bankrupt many years ago, and was never re-started, and not really missed. Fried chicken are available in many restaurant, snack-places and mobile chicken stations, so what. | Quote: | | | | | Absolutely correct there are none in CH. There was one in Geneva - I went there for the experience but it closed a couple of years ago citing difference of opinion with the authorities. Whatever that was supposed to mean!
Richard | | | | | bankruptcy procedures indeed are "differences of opinion" | Quote: | | | | | How am I going to live without my regular helping of grease?! Maybe I won't come after all. | | | | | -
Stuttgart is less than 2 hours north of Zurich (car+rail) and has at least one KFC

I think that KFC Switzerland did not collapse due to lack of interest in fried chicken, but rather because the competition was better ..............

There was a KFC on Staufaucher in Zurich, many years ago (where the Mcdonalds is now). Unfortunately it failed. As did Pizza Hut near the Hauptbahnhof. There was also a Wendy's once in Geneva, it also disappeared.
Hint for pretty decent fried chicken: coat pieces in mayonnaise (or mayo-yoghurt mix), then shake one-at-a-time in a plastic bag with flour/breadcrumb/spice mixture to coat, place in oven at 180 for about 45 minutes. Done. Nice and brown and crispy, pretty tastey result, and no deep frying hassle.

| | Re: KFC in Geneva | Quote: | | | | | I assume your "swiss gastronomic rejection" was an oxymoron. It seems the only gourmet cuisine that I've ever eaten in Switzerland is imported from another country. With the amount of pork and other fat containing products eaten daily in Switzerland concerns of a fast food chain like KFC to the overall health of the population or damage to the culinary arts in Switzerland should be of marginal risk.
Even the famous Swiss Fondue is laden with transfats and 4% butterfats from the milk used in the production of the Gruyere and Ementhaler cheese which translates to something more on the order of 70-80% fat content after you allow for the total reduction in product weight after processing and curing. After all how many grams of fat are in the whey?
I'm all for allowing any entity to exist that can do so on its own merits, and not be at the mercy of a group that has ulterior motives such as a culinary group with their own self serving agenda. | | | | | I'm with you, man. My brother came here to visit me once and he asked me (and more than half-seriously) how it is that Swiss people are so thin. When I told him I didn't quite get why he was asking he said considering that the Swiss pour melted cheese over their potatoes and smear their steak with butter, surely they must either excercise extensively to compensate for it or it's some kind of strange genetic phenomenom. Not to mention the 7kg or whaterever of chocolate consumed by each Swiss person every year... Far as I'm concerned, when you put things into perspective, a little dose of saturated fat from KFC's not going to kill you, at least not imediately .

KFC in Germany - probably closer than Vienna for most of us.
Stuttgart and Sindelfingen are the southernmost ones I was able to locate. | | | | | Guys - noticed one on the way to Strasbourg the other day...checked the KFC France website and found an even nearer one...just north of Colmar!!! Less than an hour north of Basel! Yeyy!!
Address is Rue Rosenkranz, 68125 Houssen (FR)
btw...Allen's Fried Chicken in Manchester - there is no better. |

Alas, there's a "wannabe" place (which shall remain nameless - find out for yourselves ) near Escher-Wyss Platz in Zürich which recently opened ... defo not up to Nando's high standards though. | | | | | Nando's is also in Canada!

I just don't get this greasy, twice fried chicken schitt. Didn't eat it much when I was in England but tried it again when I was there...don't get the attraction.

For those in the Zurich area some nice links for TexMex and Mex food www.texmex4you.ch/index.php?w=zuerich www.tresamigos.ch/standorte.php?bt_id=6
- on the picture the one in Bassersdorf, and other outlets in other places and soon also one in the centre of Zürich-Oerlikon www.treskilos.ch www.desperado.ch/desperado_hoengg.html www.mojito.ch/restaurant.php
I personally only know the Tres Amigos in Bassersdorf which is good
If somebody however would start a Taco Bell chain here around, I am not only sure about its success, but would be a customer of them, as I liked their places in Texas.
And their places at some airshows, like at least once at the Farnborough Air Show.
