Glass Measuring Cups

Hi all,

Has anyone seen glass measuring cups anywhere? I've checked at the usual suspects: Migros, Coop, Globus, Jelmoli....no luck, except for for Coop, which carries one size only and it's the size of a tank.

Any ideas of other places to look in town before ordering on-line?

Thanks much for your help!

Lou

Re: Glass Measuring Cups

While you are looking for a glass one, Ikea has a plastic one that is both metric and imperial.

Link: http://www.ikea.com/ch/fr/catalog/products/10134971/

I have seen the glass ones around, just can't remember where. Have you tried Interio?

Are you looking for metric or both?

Re: Glass Measuring Cups

I'm looking specifically for glass, either imperial or metric (makes no difference). Will check out Interio though.

Thanks!

Re: Glass Measuring Cups

Try sibler...I love that place!

http://www.sibler.com/

There is one store near the Fraumunster in Zurich centre, and one along the Viadukt.

http://www.sibler.com/Sibler/Oeffnun...iadukt.81.html

I tried their online shop but it looks like the one listed is probably made of plastic...

The German word you need is 'Messbecher' Mess - measuring, Becher-cup/jug. For a glass one you can use 'Glas'.

This one looks nice to me!

Re: Glass Measuring Cups

Thanks!

We definitely pop into Sibler. Looks like a fun place.

An initial quick google for glaß Messbecher in Switzerland got me to the Torquato site, which is where I got the image from in the first place. So that might be the best option.

But thanks for the Sibler suggestion. Looking forward to checking that place out!

Lou

Re: Glass Measuring Cups

You could also give Glasi Hergiswil (glasi dot ch) a call - as they make many beautiful decoratived and everyday glass items, they might also make measuring cups.

Re: Glass Measuring Cups

These are not glass but they seem to be quite heavy-duty. They are in Imperial and Metric measurements.

I saw them at our local Migros which is a MM size.

Two sizes - 4 cups and 1.5 cups.
One colour - red

They have them in red and green in our local Migros. It's a MMM size store.

Re: Glass Measuring Cups

I wanted to show off my measuring cup too ! Awww yeahhh

Lol, it's funny that you made this post, because I was having the same issue when I was looking for a 'Messbecher' . I just wanted a glass one !!

I got mine at a Brochi (<--- not sure if that's spelled right, but it's a second hand store). Pretty much like new and only 1CHF. DH thought I was crazy because I already had two plastic ones

Hope you find one !

Interesting. I had checked the one in Lausanne when the thread started and no luck. Maybe they only have them in the larger stores?

Re: Glass Measuring Cups

I bought a glass Bodum measuring jug (available in 0.5L and 1.0L sizes) at Manor. Seems you can also buy it online from Bodum in Switzerland (see link).

Thanks for the idea. When I was out I looked at those as well and they seem VERY fragile (especially the handle) compared to a typical Pyrex measuring cup.

Re: Glass Measuring Cups

I bought it in the one in Zug, I think it is one of the larger ones but not as big as the one on Banhofstrasse in Zurich.

I agree with you, and I've owned a Pyrex jug before. But I couldn't find a Pyrex jug here, so I bought the Bodum. I've had it for over a year and a half now, subjected it to the usual wear and tear (including banging it on the steel sink while washing up and knocking it a few times against pots and pans), and it's come through totally unscathed. No chips, no cracks, no broken handle. It's a lot tougher than it looks. And it looks great!

All the measuring options (mL, oz, cups, flour, sugar, etc) are pretty handy, too.

I saw them at Coop on Bahnofstrasse- but I *think* it was only the bigger "tank" one that they had
