Wow.. haha.
Clearly I'm not a 400 pound french fry eating American. However, in the city where I live currently there are gourmet burgers everywhere and priced around 4.50$

Thanks for your suggestions

Renaissance Hotel (Luma Burger is awesome), Goodmans and Iroquois are my favorites. Not the cheapest, but the best!

Re: Burger in Zurich

Its hard to get a good burger here and i've been to all the places mentioned so far. Most use frozen patty burgers and not proper mince burgers.

I went to a new place which opened up a month ago called 'Korner' at Stockerstrasse tram stop. I work near Paradeplatz and have been there 3 times already. Defo the best burger in Zurich. They specialise in burgers but the bar is pretty cool, seems like a london style bar, the barman is from london too. anyway best burgers ive had in Zurich. link below

Re: Burger in Zurich

I'm an American and I make my burgers at home, eating burgers out (unless I'm really hammered and it's a slider or it's a Kobe burger on someone else's nickel) is a waste of burger and dinner. once you adapt to the taste of the beef here and figure out where to buy decent cheddar cheese, all will be good.

Re: Burger in Zurich

Seeing this thread I couldn't help but reply, despite the fact that my advice won't be THAT helpful, due to my Suisse-romande locality. However, if you ever visit Lausanne or Geneva you really, really, REALLY should have a burger at 'Holy Cow' (www.holycow.ch). Over here these guys are already legends and they have BY FAR the best burger I ever had anywhere in Europe. They only use swiss first ingredients, swiss beverages and are very careful about their quality and taste. Simply amazing and always packed with people. I hope with the rate these guys are expanding they will soon reach Zurich!

Re: Burger in Zurich

The burger at the Tina Bar in Niederdorf is very good. They only serve shoestring fries with it but the burger patty itself was made from excellent quality beef

How about Hooters?
They specialise in baps and buns.

Not too sure about the burgers themselves.

I'd be surprised if a farmer in Switzerland could produce quality beef as cheaply as you state in your post. Have you ever thought of making your own?

I'd find a good butcher that provides great meat or maybe even burger patties to go. Just add your favorite herbs and spices.

It really doesn't take that long and you can vary them as much as you like. It's a lot fun when you can experience with all the different relishes and ingredients. You can even bake your own buns if you can find time to do so.

Also, along the lake in Zürich there are BBQ-sites which you can use. So this turns into a nice social event where you can invite friends and not just a "stuff your face quickly" event.

Afterwards you could drink a great beer or a fine glass of wine, both of which are available in copious amounts in Switzerland, and go for a stroll along the waters edge.

Now, doesn't that sound like a great burger?

Bon appetit!
Harry

Re: Burger in Zurich

Brasserie Louis in Niederdorf has opened a take-away downstairs that makes a really good burger. Not perfectly american quality, but immensely better than 99% of the other burgers I've tried around here (have yet to make it to Helvti-Diner… it's on my list!), and relatively affordable (10.50CHF or so).

Just tried the Brasserie Louis... reminds me of all the other pre-formed burgers to be found in Zurich. Definitely go try the Helvti Diner. It's about 85% of what a proper American Burger should be. I account the other 15% to the different taste of Swiss vs. American beef. (BTW, Helvti has milkshakes too - a little thin, but the taste is spot on.)

Re: Burger in Zurich

Yes, Cindy's Diner does good burgers.

I tried the Helvti burgers a few days ago, and they are quite good - so now we have three places in the Zurich area that make good burgers:
Goodmans, Helvti and Cindy's Diner.

I remember my frustration when I first came here (10 years ago), and the best burgers where at McDonalds. How things change.

One of the best burgers I have tasted and certainly the best I have tasted here.

http://www.helvti-diner.ch/

Get blue cheese on it.
My granddad, who lived on Stauffaucher 1899 to 1901 would have loved
it, as his father in the USA from about 1868 until 1879 (between NY and Chicago) had a liking for American (anc Chinese) stuff. Granddad in 02 for two years moved to Basel, and then returned, not to Stein-am-Rhein but to Schaffhausen.

But he might rather have joined his daughter (my mother) when going eating to the best USA restaurant in the Zürich area

Key West Restaurant Oberrieden / Zürich
Forchstr. 113B, 8127 ForchSeestr. 31-32, 8942 Oberrieden /ZH
Tel 01- 720 05 04 , Fax 01- 720 63 94

There is a famous place, called "Papa joes" in town center. Do not know if the burgers are the best, but the place is very popular.

I know another couple of places in Niederndorf but no clue about the names right now. Anyway, still some months ahead till you can find the burger places :P
Papa Joe's is good, but just like the Key West is NOT a "Burger-place" as such. Good old aunt Hazel in Marshall/TX taught us on our visits about excellent traditional Texan cuisine and not the fast-food stuff, and my parents and me on a visit to Myrtle Beach /SC three times enjoyed good traditional Carolina-cuisine. So that we learnt that the USA has more on offer than just Mcsss, Burgers, etc

Yes, it is
http://www.moevenpick-gastronomy.com...de/welcome.htm
the replacement for the nice Cindy in Zch-Oerlikon which is
now closed. Maybe due to rising costs, but most likely in
view of the expansion of Zch-Oerlikon-Bhf. Cindy may return
to Oerlikon once the new shopping zones below the station
get opened in two years. With many shops also open on
Sundays just as at Stadelhofen-stn and Enge-stn.

I can vouch for that. The cheese was excellent!

This Cindys Diner place looks good... can't wait until they appear somewhere around Zurich that's accessible with public transport!

Re: Burger in Zurich

I can also add that the Shamrock (Irish Pub) at Wollishofen has decent burgers ... the meat itself is not that special, but the whole burger is nice - especially the spicy one.
