I have read about this "barfussbar" online and wanted to visit but I cant understand anything in the site and they are selling tickets for events... can we just go there for drinks or should we attend an event??
How does it work?? Can someone throw some light here?

Re: barfussbar

It's usually free entry on Thursday evenings from 20.00. It's really lovely, although get there early if you want a spot near the water or a table.

It is the bar + entertainment and restaurant sector of the "women Schwimmbad" in the Limmat. As all other "Schwimmbäder" of the City of Zürich, also this establishment is encouraged to upgrade the gastronomic side and so make a profit. So many of those places are so nice and usually in nice locations, have the required infrastructure and are empty after 8pm, that this is a splendid idea. Zürich City however is not managing this side itself but is giving out contracts to private companies to do so. It therefore in each case depends on the contract and the contractor. Just to mention the Utoquai which is a nice even if oldfashioned beach establishment on the lake (near Bellevue) and has an excellent cuisine both INside and OUTside and so does good business also in lousy weather and also after sunset.

If you compare Zürich with Lugano, Geneva, Luzern and Kreuzlingen/Konstanz, it here was tragically inferior to those places in regard to gastronomy along the lake-side. So that I just wait for some nice changes in both Mythenquai and Tiefenbrunnen. Also many of the non-lake/non-river Schwimmbäder could easily be kept open after sunset in nice and profitable ways. Previously, many leftists opposed private enterprise within city-owned places, but under the present financial circumstances have changed their mind. And with the Gemeinschaftszentren and the Rote Fabrik the Leftists have their venues granted as well.

For once, as mentioned above, Zürich is not ahead of the pack, but as having been behind, now has to find new and alternative ways. The Seebad Enge in fact is just another such place

and, ehhhmmm, Sanju, when reading through their infos, you are fully excused for not understanding it as the matter is complex in a way, but I can tell you that they try their very best to inform about the last single brick they turned ! AND the concept of public property contracted out to private enterprise is less than 30 years old in Switzerland (it was already around in the Italy of the 60ies ! ) and so, many CH-nationals may not excel in attempts to translate.

And HERE

you find another such joint-venture between city and private enterprise
