The answer is simple. Grumpygrapefruit. | | | | | In the 2 months of arguing, all the vegetarian cheese has sold out. Should be more coming in the next few weeks and I will post an update then.
In future, less arguing please, and more (vegetarian) cheese munching | This user would like to thank grumpygrapefruit for this useful post:

So apologies for that. I agree, strength in diversity, but I do frown on anything fundamentalist, including fundamentalist vegetarianism, the fundamentalist part I think your teetering on.
Imagine a fundamentalist Christian on the forum constantly telling everyone that they were heading for the fiery pits of hell and trying to save our souls at every opportunity?
Wouldn't go down well.

Plenty of threads like that and I did not post anything in them (I think) My fingers were itching to post in that Burger King thread but I held them back |

As a long time veggie, I love confusing people by asking for vegetarian cheese: it seems to hurt their heads.
Anyway, in Bern the shop Vatter ( http://www.vatter.ch/) has a few veggie cheeses, and they taste good. Not much help for you in Zuri, but maybe they can provide more help.
And regarding blood in coffee, manufacturers often also use animal blood to thin beer, and animal bones to "polish" sugar white. It is tough been veggie in the modern world.

Hi, I had the same problem until today. If you are looking for vegan cheese made out of soya, you'll find it at the following health-store in Zurich:
Müller Reformhaus Vital Shop AG
Rennweg 15
8001 Zurich
They have different flavoured vegan cheese. I bought the cheddar and mozzarella flavoured one. It tastes like real cheese and it even melts when used for cooking.
If you are looking for cheese made out of milk but not made with animal rennet but made with microbial rennet,(a replacement to the animal rennet), visit the following link: http://www.emmi.ch/english/cheese/about-cheese/rennet/
You'll find a list which shows which cheese is produced with the microbial rennet and which with the traditional animal rennet.
I hope I have been of help.

Hi,
did you know it's really fun and easy to make your own paneer cheese from cows milk? then you can make all kinds of fun indian food like palak paneer and paneer masala. you boil non fat-free milk, add lemon let it sit 10 min and pour the chunky stuff into cheesecloth. oh and then you do have to let it sit for maybe overnight or so. http://swadofindia.blogspot.com/2007...zi-paneer.html
gosh i hope there's no meat in cows milk

| | Re: Where can I buy Vegetarian cheese in Zurich? Hi There are a few Müller Reformhaus Vital Shop AGs I know there is one in Thalwil and another in Weidikon. I have to confess I dislike most Vegan Cheese I find it to be overly smelly and tasteless - so have pretty much given up cheese altogether. You get used to it although When I was a Vegetarian I used to eat tons of cheese, and as a Vegan it is Stilton that I miss the most. And I occasionally feel tempted when cycling past the Lindt factory on my way home. As an aside - The Co-op dark Almond chocolate is fantastic.
Actually there are a fair few branches: http://www.reformhaus.ch/verkaufsstellen/index.php

Might someone actually answer the initial question or at least summarise the answers. I'm 100% carnivore but have many friends who are veggies vegans and even god forbid Jaines. The veggies like pizza but only with veggie cheese which I generally bring over from the UK (but its a long trip). A simple list of brands would be really appreciated. ash

So you take me by my word. It was a bit a snippy remark from my side because most relevant information is already in this thread and I had forgotten the argument in between.
I'll summarise the thread and try to add some information by translating from a couple of linked websites as soon as possible.
Thank you for supporting the forum!

Where to get vegetarian cheese and vegan replacements for pizza in Basel: - Müller Reformhaus sells vegetarian cheese and melting, cheddar flavored cheese replacement.
- Country Life is another Reformhaus but we don't know if it sells dairy products.
- The same applies to Reformhaus Weiler
- And Daniel Hildebrand Reformhaus & Drogerie
- And Vitalis Bioladen & Drogerie
- The online shopo Larada sells a line of vegan cheese replacements, among them one product called No Muh cheese. According to Larada it doesn't melt, but softens when heated and is explicitely fit for pizza.
How to find vegetarian cheeses in normal shops (they are the exception and cheese produced with the aid of calv lab is the rule): - Some Swiss cheeses traditionally don't require lab or another agent of this kind. Sauerkäse aka Surchäs, Ploderkäse or Bloderchäs is a low-fat, slightly sour tasting cheese specialty of Eastern Switzerland (Toggenburg). The milk fermentation is slow and weak, neither lab nor an alternative is used. Nor is calv lab used for Toni Glarner Kräuterkäse (Schabziger), an aromatic spread cheese specialty of canton Glarus.
- Some processed cheese slices are lab free but this isn't declared on the package.
- Keep your eyes open for the V-Label, I have seen this vegetarism certificate accompanied by a description (vegetarian/vegan) in both big Coops and Migros, but not yet on cheese products regrettably.
- Vegetarismus.ch maintains this list of calv lab free cheeses in Switzerland.
- Cheese producer Emmi categorises his cheeses in a list here.

| | Re: Where can I buy Vegetarian cheese in Zurich? | Quote: | | | | | OP:
You've obviously never been on a farm, otherwise you would know that if you want the best quality meat, you kill the animal quickly and humanely. If you scare it, make it run around, etc., then you can't bleed it out effectively and the meat will be ruined. So basically, the ideal way to slaughter an animal is to give it a pail of grain, come up behind it while it's happily munching away, and shoot it behind the ear. It's gone before it even realizes what happened.
And I guess you don't eat carrots or other root vegetables, since you have to KILL the plant to eat it. So no onions, no carrots, no beets. Do you also bring in for the winter any plant you grew outside for its fruits (tomatoes, cucumbers, melons) so the cold doesn't kill it?
Like it or not, nature is not humane. Coyotes maim sheep and kill their lambs, cruelly. Weasels and mink are notorious killers of hens and chicks, as well as rabbits. If you think what a farmer does is cruel when he chops off a chicken's head, I'd like to show you a video of a mink killing a rooster. Chicken blood and chicken guts everywhere. You'd never oppose fur-wearing again.
Morgannon | | | | | So you are comparing yourself to Weasels now? I have been on farms and I have see animals die. I have dealt with your points already on this and the other vegetarian related threads. Do a search as I am not going to type again and again the same thing everytime someone new jumps in. Oh!and I will always oppose fur wearing | This user groans at rhythmical remedy for this post:

Although I'm quite happy for you to engage RR in debate. This thread is about vegetarian cheese and where it can be purchased.
I have removed your two posts as they are not relevant to this thread.
