Reviving this thread with a question: any tips for a place with a great view (sunset wise) that is within 1 hour’s scenic drive of Basel? Adler in Feldberg sounds great but unfortunately closed on Wednesdays and that is when I wish to dine with a good friend. Checked all the suggestions in the thread and the ones that would suit are either closed on Wednesdays or closed permanently.

Google searches with “nice view” in German / French did not bring up anything very helpful...

And thank you for starting this thread, I’ve been to the Couronne in Leymen several times and was always very happy with the food, eating in the garden seems to sometimes impact the service but would go again for sure.
Restaurant Scholsshof in Dornach. Food Meh. View of the ruins and Wyna river valley nice. Plenty of outdoor seating. Easier by car. Lots of parking once you get there.

Only in Switzerland do people ask for a restaurant with a view, without asking what the food is like.

Tom that's because the expectations are quite low (experience) ahah so we're looking for something to compensate the lack of good food

Re: RESTAURANT REVIEWS: Options *outside* Basel in DE/FR

I see now you asked for DE/FR.

Two in the Schwarzwald:

Restaurant Trescher. Patio restaurant on the Titisee
Seestraße 10, 79822 Titisee-Neustadt, Germany
https://goo.gl/maps/yij7C6hZQfL2

can either drive or rail

This one you must drive (dirt logging road)
Kohlerhof
Kohlerweg 13, 79283 Ehrenkirchen, Germany
https://goo.gl/maps/dTNwhHNaSZN2

We hiked up here in the winter, but IIRC, it has a patio overlooking the Rhine Valley far below. Check Google Maps.

Food was typical - nothing great.

Another suggestion:

Restaurant Poseidon, Tumringer Str. 251, 79539 Lörrach, Germany

Greek food meaning lots of great Fish and specialities. Very busy with all round good reviews. Make sure you go hungry, portions are BIG.

22 yards, just a question ,
Now that you've found this and thanx for it, I'll definitely visit it, would you know a place in Basel, like a coffee lounge , a place that's huge , with an atmosphere where I can get a big cappuccino then I can switch to Daiquiri,Cuba libre and such .. ahah ) is this too sci-fi for CH ??
Just saw this, sorry for the delay in answering.

This is Basel, so... no. Obviously.

If you really want a huge coffee lounge/bar (why? To increase your pobability of success?!), probably your best bet is Unternehmen Mitte, but in my opinion it lacks the bar atmosphere that you're after. It's cavernous (it is a former bank) and very noisy. There are two dedicated cafés at the entrance to the main attraction itself: fumare (for smokers) and non fumare.

The espressos are good, though.

If you really want sci-fi, you can't do better (anywhere in the world!) than the Museum H.R. Giger Bar in, of all places, Gruyères! (Nowhere near Basel but well worth the drive, if only to visit Gruyères, possibly the most beautiful mediaeval walled town in the world.) There's a Giger Bar in Chur, too, but the Gruyères one is spookier by far.

FR

Tom
Surely there's a US state using that abbreviation? Or maybe they were talking about dining on a Ryanair flight, or, since you're keen on abbreviations used on cars, Freiburg in Germany?
