Chai tea to make chai tea lattes - where to buy.how to make

Anyone know where I can buy this for a reasonable price to make at home, or know a good/easy recipe I can follow (preferably involving things I am likely to have in the cupboards already)?

Thanks very much

Re: Chai tea to make chai tea lattes - where to buy.how to make

Not sure how to make the latté bit, but Chai tea bags can be bought in Coop for, I think, CHF 3.70 for a box of 20-25.

Don't know if that is what you are after though. I always thought Chai lattés used something else, like a powder rather than the actual tea bags. I've settled for the tea since it is easier to make!

May or may not help, good luck in the search!

(I'm going to look dumb now)

Is this the same stuff they sell at Starbucks? Or is that a (probably bad) copy of something else?

Starbuck Chai Tea Latte is my guilty pleasure.

I think this is what the OP was talking about. You're not dumb for recognising that.

The bit about Starbucks OTOH...

Re: Chai tea to make chai tea lattes - where to buy.how to make

Thanks everyone

I tried to make it myself earlier using a black tea bag, sugar, cloves, cinnamon, cardamon, ginger and milk (I searched for recipes online)

I didn't have the quantities right, I think, so I made a nice drink, but not the chai tea latte flavour I love

Have you also tried a latte version? I'm curious to know if the flavour of the tea bags alone is very different from the latte

Most chain coffee shops either use a powder or a flavored syrup that they add to steamed, frothed milk.

If you start with the tea bags and use boiling water - it will be less creamy than the coffee shops since they use milk only.

The method I followed puts the tea bag in last and only briefly (black tea bag, not chai).

I'm not sure which you are referencing in your post

Re: Chai tea to make chai tea lattes - where to buy.how to make

I have used a chai powder for years. It's by David Rio. There are a few different flavours, I like the Orca sugerfree one best.

http://www.davidrio.com/chai.html

I put a large spoonfull in a large glass, fill the glass up to 2/3 with boiling water and top it up with 1 dl hot frothy milk. Yummy.
I used to order the powder online, but the postage is a bummer. Luckily, Manor is selling it now, too.

Enjoy!

I found Indian Chai teabags at a Drogerie, tastes great! And I have been to India, so I know the real street corner stuff.

Re: Chai tea to make chai tea lattes - where to buy.how to make

I second Tilia's advice.

I have Indian and Kenyan masala tea bags and for a quick and easy drink, make it like "English" tea - add teabag to hot water, brew for a few minutes, take out teabag, add milk (and sugar if you wish).

For the latte version, put cold milk into a saucepan, add teabag, bring milk almost to the boil stirring regularly. Remove teabag, pour into mug (add sugar if you wish).

The Coop has Chai lattes in powder. My OH tried both the tea bags and this powder and he like the powder much better.
