Best one i have found so far has been in Manor - or buy the ingredients yourself and make it (pretty simple to make)

It is definitely better and much cheaper to make your own, lime is better than lemon, by the way, and I don't go too crazy about Tahini, it makes it bitter.

It is an example of the classic "beans (or peas) and seeds" combination found in many world cuisines. The two categories, complete each others' aminoacids to form a more complete protein than any of the two alone. If the Vegan Chef were still here , he could have enlightened us further. | This user would like to thank Simeon for this useful post:

This is the best recipe - hint! swap the regular garlic for roasted. Delish. http://smittenkitchen.com/blog/2013/...smooth-hummus/ | The following 4 users would like to thank JanerMacP for this useful post:

No manor in Bern though. Can't remember if the loeb lebensmittel has it. You can buy everything you need to make it in a coop. Lime 's an interesting thought, will have to try it. We also put chopped parsley in it and smoky paprika - sweet pimenton.

I haven't seen Coop sell Tahini in here, but will have a look.
What bread do people get? Pita is nice, but I bake it in the oven, make chips out of it. Bagels are super nice with that, but haven't found fresh ones here yet, the prepacked ones taste like cakes.

Our coops have it in the "international" food area. My husband eats it with pita, i eat it with crispy veggies - peppers, carrots, cucumber, fennel.
Sometimes i also put a roasted pepper in the mix - it's very popular in the US.

See here too: Looking for fresh Hummus
I'm all over any thread to do with hummus and pita.
Manor's is the best one I've found in the supermarket. The tinned stuff in my local Turkish supermarkets is ... ahem... an acquired taste.

The new stuff they sell in Migros since a few months is as good as homemade. Most brands don't use enough tahini. IMO, and often too much lemon or not enough garlic. But this stuff (in the same plastic tubs as the also decent Tzatziki and excellent aubergine dip) is really great. Pity they don't sell good Lebanese style Pita at the same shop, I have to got to the Coop for that.

Some Denners have good hummus imported from Israel. The one in Zurich Enge has it.

In a pinch, you can also use peanut butter in lieu of tahini. I use a vitamix blender to make mine. Served with fresh vegetables, it is delicious. Also a great "first food" for infants.
