You can find Real New York Cheesecake at Peace Foods in Baar or online at www.peace-foods.ch. The authentic NY cheesecake is made with real philadelphia cream cheese and baked and topped with sour cream. All others are just cheesecakes and those not baked are set with gelatin, derived from the bones of dead animals.
The Cheesecake at Starbucks is from the USA, made by a company called Sweetstreet and is not a authentic NY Cheesecake.
Hey, the Knox gelatine cheesecake recipe is good too. My Mom make that. 65 years ago. You can use vegan gelatine.

My Mom, of sacred memory, was a Swiss who lived many years in New York. She knew "NY Cheesecake" too.

Re: Seek real Cheesecake (American-style)

I concur that Coop's plain cheesecake is really, really good. I occasionally buy them, and serve them with a homemade raspberry coulis (just smush fresh or frozen raspberries through a fine sieve, and sweeten ever so slightly if needed).

To me, a proper New York cheesecake batter involves nothing except Philadelphia cream cheese, eggs, and sugar, plus whatever flavoring you want (I generally do lemon zest). The instant you add quark or cream or gelatin or whatever, it's not authentic. (Might be good, but not "proper".)

And yes, it's baked. (A NY cheesecake is essentially a cream cheese custard pie, food-science-wise.)

Re: Seek real Cheesecake (American-style)

I saw the Honey Maid brand at the tourist shop across from the Wasserkirche in Zurich yesterday. I think they said 6.80 CHF?

Oh and peacefoods cheesecake is pretty good - you can get it at this coffeeshop, if they haven't sold out: (on Niederdorfstrasse in Zurich)
