Flatiron Steak equivalent

I have some recipes calling for flatiron steak. Can anyone suggest an alternative cut of beef to ask for? Thanks! (German speaking Switzerland)

Re: Flatiron Steak equivalent

I'm guessing that this might be similar Rinds-Schulter Braten (shoulder roast) since flatiron is from the shoulder area - you can order it from here for pick up

Re: Flatiron Steak equivalent

Did flat-iron steak this week, have to say one of the most tender flavourful steaks we've had in a long time, cooked it sous-vide for 7 hours at 55 then finished on a hot grill, served with baked potato and roast parsnips.

Re: Flatiron Steak equivalent

You really need a butcher that knows what they’re doing to get a flat iron steak. It’s really a cut of meat that’s not easy to replicate so I wouldn’t try to look for an equivalent.

EDIT: Just realised this thread is six years old

Fortunately for me living in Bern I have such a butcher, they actually raise their own cows and sell the meat from a shop in Bern so they have full traceability of meat.

You could do with some salad on that plate!

La Boulette they specialise in the secondary cuts that the butcher usually keeps for themselves, if you're american then you'll the fact that you can get tri-tip or if you are in Zurich then Carmelo is another good option

You could be right, but thanks to cancer taking half my stomach and large bowel I don't digest it very well .... so I'll skip the salad and the hours in the bathroom

No worries, I've been living with it for 13 years on and off, it's not inoperable and I've been chemo every 2 to 3 weeks to keep it stable for the last 3.5 years these days to me I just get on with life and don't make a big fuss about it and it's a great excuse to dodge salad

It only got resurrected because I had to Google flat iron steak for a Swiss friend and this was one of the results so I thought I would post how nice it was

I have recently purchased a good piece of flat iron steak from Coop.

Never seen it there before. Very good quality!
