| | Re: Good Beer -- Where Can You Buy It? | Quote: | | | | | The local stores (Migros, Vogt, etc.) all have a horrible selection of very light beers -- Karlskrone, Feldschlosschen, etc. -- that remind me of the Budweiser, Coors and other lagers sold in the U.S. Even the larger stores seem to focus on their wine sections.
Is there somewhere between Zurich and Rapperswil that sells quality brews in bottles or cans. I especially like brown ales, stouts and Belgium white beers. Also, does the area have any small "craft" breweries? | | | | |
Widely available is the Falken-Bräu from Schaffhausen
which is strong by regional Standards. And I like the Kronenbourg from Strassburg
which is good. You however at COOP might buy the very cheap PRIX GARANTIE BIER
which is quite nice, as Long as you ignore the absurd decor. But we do not drink the can but the Content. And CHF -.55 per 5 dl of quite acceptable stuff is a good deal
And at CHF 2.-- you can get in Zch HB and other places (Drinks of the World)

Denner has big collection of Beers. Try that and I am sure you will get some beer to your liking there.

On Friday morning whilst walking the 4 legged monster we passed by our local craft brewery. Have been meaning to try it for ages but not found an outlet. On his door was a notice stating that he now opens the brewery door on Saturdays from 10am till noon. Duly returned Saturday morning to be greeted by Rudolph Blattmann, the brewer. We got started chatting about beers, our tastes and experiences of tasting many craft British and Belgian beers. He offered us a taste which we accepted. Lovely beer, the “hell”, nice length of flavour and enough taste that you don’t neck it! His Amber is due to bottled next week but he did draw off a taste for us, nice chocolate undertones, not too sweet.
Well worth visit! We are going back next Saturday to stock up. Fantastic to find good beer in Switzerland. https://blattmannbier.ch/
Rudi speaks perfect English and is passionate about his craft. He still works in Luzern but hopes to expand the brewery in 2018, and possible give up the day job. Needs support!

Just to add, he is having a try at brewing a Belgium style gold beer. It is still in the vat doing its thing!

On German side, some ethnic-food stores (especially Eastern European) have good selection of Bohemian (Czech) Lagers and Pilsners (bottled not canned).
COOP has Budweiser Budvar beer (the original Bud, not the Murikan) which is very good.
Belgian beer aplenty at every COOP. Don't like them though as their are too old fashioned and using groot instead of hops to knock down the sweetness. I find most Belgian brews too heavy and high in alcohol. But women who drink beer really like them cause they are sweet and fruity.

(Ok much of the Belgian stuff is good but the rest sounds awful!)
