Re: Coffee Machine

I've had a Nespresso machine for two years and have been really happy with it and with the quality of the coffee capsules. But the coffee capsules aren't exactly cheap-CHF 0.47 to 0.49 a shot (you have to order in multiples of 50). If you like your coffee medium strength I find it takes two capsules to make a decent sized cup of café au lait. There's a wide variety of coffee available and you can order on line (arrives two days later in the post with a bill). Still a lot cheaper than a coffee in a local bar.

Re: Coffee Machine

So then it's a choice between Nespresso and Delizio....unless anyone can recommend any others.

I like the sound of Delizio, no need to order rhe capsules on line.

I have Nespresso, I love Nespresso, mainly for its quality of product, ease of use, and selection of coffees. Our machine makes good espresso, cappuchino, cafe latte, etc.

You can buy your Nespresso capsules here:

http://www.nespresso.com/precom/cont....html?ref=bale

(if you want to avoid ordering 200+ at a time or paying shipping cost)

Does anyone have a Tchibo Cafissimo machine? If so, how do you rate it?

My pet name for that shop is "Cheap-o" instead of "Tchibo" which in my opinion pretty much sums up everything in there.

Re: Coffee Machine

Propriatary capsules. Coffee not bad, machine supercheap, but obviously dedicated. If you must do the capsule thang then go for a nespresso or tassimo device.

So cheap in fact that you could treat it as for short term use. People mad enough spend thousands on a jura heavy-duty machine need to wake up and smell the (more cheaply served) coffee.

Re: Coffee Machine

I get sick of the taste of capsule coffee very quickly. There is something very artificial about it. I have something similar to this el-cheapo machine

From Fust for 80:-

And when good coffee is used (Illy), it churns out poifect coffee time after time. Don't bother with the frothy milk thingy, it's a waste of time anyway. A 2:- whizzy thing from Ikea does a much better job if you are after frothy milk.

Re: Coffee Machine

I ruled our nespresso because of the capsule cost and the fact that you needed to take them to the recycling center. I went for a machine that does ground coffee and pods. There are loads of brands of pods - coop, Migros, Manor and Denner all sell the pods. Chicco Doro and Mastro Lorenza (does decaf too) are the ones I use. Each pod is wrapped to keep it fresh and can be put in the green waste bin.

Francis Francis and Magimix will both definately take pods. Things to look for on a coffee machine:
1. Adjustable flow for espresso and big coffees
2. Automatic shut off (after 2 hours or so)
3. De-calcing cycle
4. Simple old fashioned style with no grinding of beans or storing of used beans. So much can go wrong with these machines and the beans don't stay fresh.

Re: Coffee Machine

Yeah, to be honest, it's like spending thousands on a hifi and then listening to the Scissor Sisters. A good quality coffee like Illy will taste better from a cheap machine than crap coffee from a good one. So save some money on the machine, and treat yourself to a weekend in Amsterdam and bring back lots of cheap coffee...

That said I have always wanted one of the Gaggio chrome and brass Jules-Verne style monstrosities...

Nespresso costs the most and tastes the best but you have to order the capsules by mail and order 200+ if you want to avoid the 5.- chf. delivery charge.
Migros Delizio taste good, they are cheaper and are available at any Migros.
That's the reason I switched from Nespresso to Delizio)
What's best to clean the Delizio with?

Re: Coffee Machine

I recently bought a Tassimo, and am more or less satisfied. Am a light drinker at home (use the Jura/Nespresso machines at work). Tassimo also gives you a variety of capsules options - Starbucks coffee, Jacobs Espresso, Latte, Capp. etc. The machine is not too costly (less than CHF 200 for most models I think)

Re: Coffee Machine

I have a good "Tefal - Electronic" in use which I bought for some CHF 50 at Conforama (accross from the Glattzentrum)

No capsules-thing for me as I want to have the possibility to change the sort of coffee I use, and I hate to be bound to a particular company

Re: Coffee Machine

Nothing, imo, beats the old fashioned Plunger for good coffee.

The automatic coffee machine takes so much maintenance! You gotta keep buying De-kalking fluid and cleaning tablets .... emptying trays, filling water ..... And just when you want to make coffee for guests it decides to go into "cleaning mode" .. then re-heating itself .....then rinsing itself, etc etc .....

Me and the plunger .... life is simple .. it does what it`s supposed to do ... when I want it to!

But you young ones ... you want fashionable gadgets, I guess?

Re: Coffee Machine

I have a Bialetti Mokka which I use with Italian Illy coffee. Tastes alright but doesn't produce the unctuous crema of a properly made espresso. I've been in the market for an espresso machine but my tastes keep getting more expensive (now, many thousands, which is silly), so I'll still with the mokka for now.

Re: Coffee Machine

just my opinion:

if u want capsules (and willing to pay a lot for your coffee/kg), then buy nespresso (no delizio or tchibo) with original nespresso capsules. (no denner or geant/casino capsules. they are all crap in taste).

if u don't want to spend CHF 90/kg for coffee (nespresso), get a proper machine (kolbenmaschine):

and invest in real quality coffee from www.rast.ch
