Re: [Where to find] Sugar Snap Peas

Just did a little research, my guess would be, you rather find them on a farmers market than in one of the supermarkets, this, because they are about now ready to be harvested (as are ours soon in both allotments) and from what i gathered are not as asked for as mange-touts by the wider public.
Another option, sold on farmers markets (not supermarkets) could be Markerbsen a kind of sturdier variety of the sugar snaps

Re: [Where to find] Sugar Snap Peas

They do seem to be seasonal. Have you tried the Asian supermarket ?

I sometimes get them from the really big Migros, in the 'bio' section sometimes, and otherwise as people have said, the Asian supermarkets.

There is a small Asian supermarket in the tunnel at the far end of the Zurich main train station (Sihlpost) on the Josefstrasse side.

One of my all-time favorite stir-fry vegetables is sugar snap peas, and alas, these remain one of the few things I've not been able to find here, even seasonally. Does anyone know of a store in Zurich that carries them?

I know the word for them is "Zuckerschoten", though German often uses that word for snow peas as well, which I find bitter and unpleasant. For those who don't know sugar snap peas, they are related to a snow pea, but with a much rounder cross-section.

I think I might have seen them once at a farmers market somewhere, but I'd love a consistent source.
They're called "Kefen" here.

Re: [Where to find] Sugar Snap Peas

No, kefen are not sugar snap peas. The flavour is quite different and they look different as well. Sugar snap peas are fatter with multiple distinct roundish peas visible in the pod whereas kefen (also known as mange tout) are flatter. Sugar snap peas are also, wait for it... sweeter! They add a great texture and taste to stir fry dishes.

For what it's worth, I grew my own this year on the balcony. 3 plants from seed have given a sufficient amount so far.
