You can find allspice berries at Globus... maybe you can also find mixed spice there. (For those who don't know - I had to look it up - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mixed_spice)

Look for Piment

PS: Wikipedia is good tool for translation.

PPS: ?You may also have a look at Lebkuchengewürz. Which is a mixture not unlike your Mixed Spice.

Re: Mixed spice

My mam posts it when she sends a parcel and at halloween i think she thought i'd be making bracks for the whole of switzerland so i have a small stash! I can post you one to keep you going if you like? its still sealed!
If you're not happy getting food stuff from randomers on ef though, you could also check out some english food stores in zürich? In basel for example, a book store..i think its Bider und Tanner, do an english food stand which stocks it. If not PM me your address!

Re: Mixed spice

I bought allspice at Barkat - it is called Piment. For mixed spice, try the spice stall at the Viadukt - or as others have mentioned, Lebkuchengewurz is a reasonable approximation.

Cheers,
Nick

Wow that is super generous of you, thank you! Im moving soon though, so its probably best you hold on to it. Haha I'm not sure what bracks are, but if they have mixed spice in them, Im sure you can never have too many! I was planning on making hot cross buns for Easter. Ill have a look at the suggested places, I still have a few weeks

Thanks everyone!

Re: Mixed spice

You may visit the Glattzentrum. Where you can find.
Globus, Migros, and the Gewürzhüsli.

At least the last one has Piment/Allspice in its Webshop.

Plus the post was wrong. Piment was offered as a translation of Allspice, one of the components of English mixed spice.

The link explains the difference between allspice and mixed spice, geminder hasn't read the thread properly.

This thread has reminded me that I once had someone in all seriousness tell me that I could simply substitute chinese five spice for mixed spice in a cake as it was pretty much the same thing!

Simple, as you saw fit to resurrect a thread from 2014? That is probably what Curley meant

Re: Mixed spice

That reminds me, that I have to mix a batch of Five Spice.

(Disclaimer: Which is something else than Old Spice, Mixed Spice, or Allspice. The latter is just one single spice and the first has properly no use in cooking, but on the cook only)
