| | Re: The best Indian curry in Zurich? | Quote: | | | | | I would like to recommend a very nice homely Indian Restaurant in Zürich which I am sure most of you may not have even heard of.
This place is called "Flavor of India".
Its in Kloten. Here is the link.
As you can see from the website, Its not a fancy place. Just a small mom and pop's kind of joint. I know the owners from being a frequent visitor (since its quite close to where I live).
But what I can say is that the food is great, very close to authentic Indian food. The owners are really nice people, and make a personal effort to cater to your tastes.
If you get a chance, give this place a try. I am sure you will not be disappointed.
PS: I have no affiliation to this place, other than the fact that I know the owners from frequenting the place quite a bit. | | | | | Which regional cuisine do they specialise in?

| | The best Indian curry in Zurich?
The best Indian food I ever had in Zurich was at restaurant Kerala. They specialize in south indian cuisine. If you are tired of the same chicken tikka masala and naan, go here for a welcoming change and to discover the taste of south india. I live in Geneva and will you believe if I tell you that we travel to Zurich just to eat there. May be i am biased being a south indian myself | This user would like to thank sesh82 for this useful post: | |

PS: There is special Diwali Buffet on the 5th of Nov. Would be an opportune (but crowded) day to visit the place.

| | Re: The best Indian curry in Zurich? | Quote: | | | | | Wolli, don't forget Mundial. Great quality and unbeatable for prices/serving size. A Panjabi friend of mine was extolling Tandoori BBQ to me yesterday, of no surprise to me, and also asking me when she could join me at the famous Mundial buffet.
I have yet to try Raja Bongo and have been meaning to. But to be honest, the cheap Lankan joints and mid-priced Indian holes are more to my liking.
Khans: again a thumbs down. Corroborated by above N Indian friend. It's what we would call a restaurant for white people: overpriced, showy, and weak recipes. | | | | | That the Khan is heavily overpriced is obvious, worse however is that its choice is meagre and would be alright in Bünzen or in Knieritz-an-der-Knatter but not in Zürich. That it is showy is true but no tragedy.

Kerala was the worst Indian restaurant I've ever been to. They use the same spices in all their foods. Would definately not recommend it.

There's a new place just opened a few weeks ago. This is close to the CS office UH in Zurich, above Brunau park where Giesshübelstrasse meets Uetlibergstrasse.
There is a tram stop just outside the restaurant (Laubegg).
This used to be a Japanese years ago (Takano who are now in the city) then a Thai, then chinese.
They have a lunch buffet for 17.50
Was there earlier this week. Food is quite tasty, but not hot however good value I think. They had Tandoori chicken, a fish curry, lentals, a veggi curry and noodles with chicken (they do some Thai stuff too) plus Nan bread. Starter was deep fried onions and other veggies plus salad.
Evening menu seems to be standard Swiss pricing (ca. 2xchf per main course).
Can't remember the name, something like Swaan but tried searching the Web as they have a stie but not found it yet.

| | New Indian restaurant in Zurich - Swaard
Hi This place seems to have changed owners. It is now an Indian Restaurant, and I don't think that I will be able to hold off much longer , judging by the glorious Inidan aromas wafting from it as I get off at the end of the Tram 5.
Anyone fancy meeting up for lunch and reviewing it ? It's 30 yards from the end of the line on Tram 5, 5 minutes walk from Credit Suisse Uetlihof and 2 minutes walk from Brunau Park Shopping Centre.

It's an all you can eat buffet just like the Thai place was before it. The food was nothing spectacular but edible enough. I guess it's a new type of cuisine to vary the choices, but personally I'd rather continue down the hill and either go to the Italian by the post office or the Vietnamese a little further down on the opposite side of the road.

Granted it won't be a put the loo roll in the freezer in advance affair, but a curry of sorts nevertheless (and asking for echte vietnamische scharf often results in a pleasant burn.

Although the food was quite tasty, the Indian menu is totally over-priced (around 28CHF for a main dish, and the portions were not that big and then you need to factor in the cost of rice etc). The service also left something to be desired, although I think the guy was new so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt on this one.
My big gripe, however, is that the only side dishes to choose from were basically rice and bread. All of the vegetable dishes were only served as mains and there were no options for potatos etc. When I eat Indian food I like to have tasty vegetables with my meal, not just meat and carbs!
So in summary:
Pros: the food was tasty
Cons: overpriced, bad choice of side dishes, poor service (although the poor service could have been a one off)
