Your fully justified observation applies to most cuisines not limited to Indian.

Second that. Not high cusine but good value. My girlfriend (Indian) nags me constantly to eat there.

Just re-discovered this place in Baden: http://www.tajmahal-baden.ch
Excellent, authentic Indian food reasonably priced (as compared to Zurich).
Really nice crisp naans, lovely curries and Tandooris.

Thought I might resurrect this post, since I see that the Madras Curry House appears to have shut up shop. Any recommendations for decent Indian curry (i.e. not style over substance) in the Oerlikon area?

Oooh, I've got one-
Malabar, at Sternen Oerlikon. http://malabar-restaurant.ch/menu
It's excellent, run by my neighbor, who has been torturing us with the lovely smell of his cooking for years!

Looks great but at 30 CHFs per dish, that's comparable to Atul Kutcher. http://www.benaresrestaurant.com/ind...la-carte-menu/ | Quote: | | | | | Oooh, I've got one-

It's amazing how Indian food is one of the cheapest cuisines to make at home, yet one of the most overpriced to buy in restaurants.

Everytime we invite friends over for dinner, my wife starts her cooking atleast a day before and cooking with precise time to put in ingredients | The following 4 users would like to thank kkrish for this useful post: | |

It is a cheap (yet undeniably delicious) cuisine.

But if you talk about the cuisine then Indian is one of the difficult ones and costs more to get it right IMO
Try butter naan, Chicken tikka masala and tandoori chicken at Tandoorhaus in Seebach, far authentic and cheap compared to many other so called Posh indian restaurant.

Korma sutra gets our vote! Fantastic bhuna and tikka masala (better than the uk where tikka massala's seem to now taste of coconut sun lotion!!). Not sure it counts as a good 'Indian' curry though. I met a South Indian at ski school who reckoned the best Indian restaurant was in Horgan though no idea what it's called. However, assuming there is no more than one there.

Found this place a couple of week's ago on Badenerstrasse near Altstetten: http://curry-queen.ch/
The prices are pretty good, the portions are generous and the curries are nice.

Good cooking needs planning. When in the kitchen in Military Service once for a three weeks and a half period, I saw how our chief started preparations three days ahead. UNused sauces were mixed up for forther use.
But the Price Level is not due to this but based on
- Price of location
- Price of importation
But there is a reason why so many Greek restaurants here have disappeared. They went too far in having high prices
