I dont seem to bear witness to much real support for the Taj Palace on the Hönggerstrasse. After all, he does serve up good Indian food in the most traditional of fashions and he has been in "the little big city" for surely longer than most of his contemparies. The Taj Palace serves Kingfisher beer and during the summer months sitting outside on the patio, over looking the river, guzzling beer and enjoying the food is the most agreeable situation. What more could a man wish!!

Have you noticed the difference in food in the recent years? They deliver to us via Mosi's so we've been ordering from them for the past 3 years, in particular the briyani. I've noticed the last two times that it's just different and not as good, so we've stopped ordering from there now.

I hope he manages to sort out his attention-to-detail attitude. Nobody needs to teach or preach his know-how capabilities!!

| | Re: The best Indian curry in Zurich? | Quote: | | | | | Hi all, I just wanted to inform you about a new restaurant which has opened few months ago near Buhnstrasse called 'Tandoor House'. The food is truly delicious and it doesn't give much burden on your pocket.
The place is very close to Oerlikon, you need to take bus no.75 from there to reach Buhnstrasse.
Dont forget to try Sheekh Kabab there its really luscious. | | | | | Ok just eaten here, and I think the standards have slipped.
Not only was it the worst "curry" I have had, but also the worst meal in a restaurant... and all for the bargain price of 98SFr for 2
Mixed starter for 2 = 14.90SFr.
1 samosa
2 potato pancakes
pile of hot prawns (indian???)
1 bit of cauliflower in batter
1 (split in 2) lamb spicy meat ball
Not very much for the money in my opinion, and I was expecting some pakora and bhaji's, my fault for not reading the menu.
Lamb Rogan Josh and basmati rice
4 bits of lamb, and the rogan josh could have been any flavour they chose to call it. If they used Cumin, Coriander or Turmeric they disguised it well.
The Basmati rice came with frozen veg ( ridged carrots, sliced beans and peas)
Chicken Biryiani, less said the better. No mint, or ginger, and all mushed together in a pulp with some rice.
Overall I would not recommend it.
The service was excellent, but the food was terrible; for the money, phone me, I'll cook you crap for half the price.

Any thoughts or knowledge about AMMA on Kalkbreitenstrasse? I hear they serve Dosas, which is a big plus IMHO.
Cheers! | | | | |

will try it out tomorrow. Never been to this one.

I had a really good meal there a few weeks ago. The most tasty curry I have had in Zürich. It wasn't particularly cheap, but my barometer is value-oriented and I came away with a good impression...

My favourite indian restaurant is still Khans

| | The best Indian curry in Zurich?
OK I havent as yet made it to Zurich, am due to arrive in August. Seems there is no where to get a good curry in Zurich !! also the prices are obscene!!!
I was on a business trip last year when we visited a restaurant called Raja Bongo. This place was ok, the chef was Indian, however from Mombasa (Kenya) His menu had an East African twist and all the food was well spiced. Will definately visit the place again, however it will take time getting used to the Swiss prices, we've had it too good in London I guess.

Had a fantastic celebration meal in Khans Friday night. The chef went all out and made us a surprise menu (reserved in advance). If anyone has a special occasion and there are at least 4 people i can whole heartedly recommend the special menu. Don't be surprised when a banana leaf is placed in front of you, it's not part of the menu, it's your plate.
At 70 francs it can sound a bit steep but the array of starters, wonderful naan bread and good choice of mains, (which are served silver- service style) more than compensate the price. Each dish was prepared to perfection and the harmonious, taste- bud titillation is one i wont forget for a long time.
All this was finished off by three different desserts which were beautifully presented and in such portions that we were not over- faced. All together this was "Indian fine Dining " indeed. |

I went to the Indian Palace last night: http://www.indian-palace.ch
(the menu isn't up to date, but the place is still open)
It was really good. The prices were also quite reasonable - veggie dishes weren't priced the same as lamb ones.
It's run by punjabis and their style does come through in the food. I'll certainly be back there at some stage. I only got to try a dhall dish, mixed veg and a chilli lamb.
Still not quite up to Spice Route for me, but it's a lot closer and well ... it is different. I'll be heading there whenever I get the cravings for simple indian
Cheers,
Nanda.

I think it must have been Kobal's that I went to. A friend took me there, it's down some side street not far from Langstr. - I fear I'll never find it again. Loved the food! My 5 years living in Italy left me VERY deprived of the good old ruby murrie! When's the next Zürich curry night? I hope to make it this time.

Hi JBrady, 80 percent of the so called Indian Restaurants are actually run by Bangladeshis. And the food is not Indian really. | | | | | and pakistani's mostly in zurich, heavy with lots of fat. |
