Has anyone been to Drinks of the Word?

I will die without good beer, and I had trouble finding anything other than a lager or a Heff in Basel. So, I was so excited when I came across this site!

Has anyone bought beer there? How much can I expect to pay for a six pack of some IPA?

Thanks!

What you see on the site - they pretty much sell by the bottle or can.

This shop is great! I don't have a strong preference to one kind of beer, I mostly just go and browse until I find something interesting. I buy bottles, not sixpacks, but the price ranges from 1 to 4 chf per bottle.

I was able to find Yuengling there, which means it is pretty much the greatest place on Earth.

At least in Zürich the selection is very good - have discovered some labels from South America that I thought will never see again.

Price is obviously up the scale as its all imported but sometimes one just cannot skip an opportunity for a trip down the beer(memory)lane.

Re: Has anyone been to Drinks of the Word?

Our local Alligro always has Spitfire, Hobgoblin and various other British and international beers in stock. At the moment they also have Punk IPA and Old Speckled Hen, IIRC.

Re: Has anyone been to Drinks of the Word?

They are a chain of stores and I sometimes visit them on my hunt for American products.

Always check the label. I saw that some of their Dr Peppers were made in GB and some of their MGO's were brewed in the Netherlands while they were still beeing advertised as American products.

Re: Has anyone been to Drinks of the Word?

Hate this shop. Bought 3 bottles of US IPA for 15.- yesterday...

You find IPA etc. a lot cheaper in other shops though, the prices in drinks of the word are, even for Switzerland, ridiculous and just robbery. Try not to shop there, even sweet stouts taste bitter if you pay 8.- for a 0.3l bottle.

Re: Has anyone been to Drinks of the Word?

If you have something particular in mind it is worth going to your local drink store (Getrankt) and see if they will order it for you, definately cheaper than Drinks of the World.

LeShop.ch also has a reasonable choice of beer from around the world.
