Restaurants Serving Insects

Is there any such restaurants in Lausanne, or more generally in Switzerland?

Re: Restaurants Serving Insects

According to this article in the Aargauerzeitung, selling insects for food in Switzerland is not allowed. (Sorry, article is in German).

Fortunately, a small family-owned restaurant in Glarnerland has found a way round that law by breeding small chickens with ants to create the Abäsägüggeli. They're great little creatures with six legs - so everyone gets a drumstick - but they're a right bugger to catch.

Here's their website: Abaesaegueggelihausglarus.ch

En guetä!

Re: Restaurants Serving Insects

If you want you can come and clean my room the next time the flying ants invade and take them home to cook... I had around 300 last Tuesday, that should be enough to make a decent meal...

I did know of an insect restaurant but I cannot remember the name I'm afraid. It's really bugging me.

Re: Restaurants Serving Insects

I think there are probably many restaurants serving insects ........ but just not knowingly.

Just don't order the bio-salad du jour.

I remember something about a restaurant that sold snail liver pate, but that's about it.

I do recall seeing an Aussie restaurant once, that I thought specialised in insect-like platters.
I only remember because of the weird name of it:

'Which shitty grub?'

Re: Restaurants Serving Insects

Can't say I've ever (intentionally) eaten an insect, but I guess insects are actually very nutritious.

Here is a TED Talks lecture given by a Dutch Professor of Ecology and Entomology that I once saw about the benefits of eating insects:

You could apply for the next round of I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here. They serve lots of insects in the jungle camp.

I went to a restaurant like this once; waved a blue light in the entrance and stole everyone's lunch.
