| | What to do with figs?
We have a lot, particularly as half the tree has just been chopped.
Made a pie, have several more kg, and will have several more before we head home Monday, so what to do with them all.
Jam is one idea, drying another.
Thanks,
Tom

In addition to the standard sweet jam, make a savory one. For instance: http://www.unfussyepicure.com/2012/0...ith-bonus.html
Fig jam, sweet or savor, on scones. Mmmmm....
Or a chutney: http://www.culinate.com/recipes/coll...cs/Fig+Chutney
Or, fig salsa. Figs, onions/shallots/cilantro/chiles. Great with game. Or toss in some mango and serve with chicken.
Or a nice starter: - roasted figs with parma and blue cheese: http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/ro...apped_in_44423
But my favorite - fresh, drizzled with basalmic, on a salad.
Oh how I wish I could grow figs here on the Dark (and stormy) Side!

I had lots this year and most went to waste.
I live a bit far from civilisation, so it didn't occur to me to offer them here for free. How silly.
Oh well, next year, if there is any interest.
PS Mirabelle jam is lovely

Make a concentrated syrup from the figs, and you can then keep it for ages.
Very good for when you travel - take two or three spoonfuls before a long journey.

May try that with the figs, as I still have almost a liter, and can get more on the way home (they don't sell it in CH).

Tom | | | | | I bought the grain alcohol yesterday. I was going to soak them by taking out the pits. But now just back from Coop where I see them with the pits in.
Should I go pitless?

Should I go pitless? | | | | | Either, but if I remove the pits, I soak those separately (did that with the sour cherries and mirabelles I pitted for pies).
But dilute 50% or so, though I've done it with the full 95%.
