Seek coriander

Dear all,

If anyone knows where I can find coriander [herb], please let me know. I went to Migros and Coop and some local stores but didnt find it. Plenty of parsley and oregano, but didnt spot a single leaf of coriander. If you know, could you please share the information with me. I live 5 mins away from Oerklion station.
Thanking you in advance!

Also, I here for short term, so did not carry pots and pans with me. I asked locals and they told me Ikea will be the best option. It will cost me around 100-150chf. To be honest I am looking for something cheaper as it is matter of 3 months for now. Anyone knows any better option. Is there any second hand shop that has pots and pans?
I appreciate your time and support.

Go to Sri Lankan grocery stores on Josefstrasse near Langstrasse; they might have.

Re: Seek coriander

I can get fresh coriander at my local Migros,it's stored in the frigde with the convenience products/pre cut salads and such, they come in smallish cellophane packs and cost around 2 francs each for a good handful of herbs.

Dried coriander is avialble in the aisle with the Asian food, together with dried ginger /kardamom etc
Another option would be to go to a garden center ( or DIY Coop and Migros with garden center) and buy potted coriander, then oyu will always have your own.

For cheap pots and pans as well as cutlery and crockery ,here is a selection of three, out of many, second hand stores in Zurich

Brockenhaus Heilsarmee

Geroldstrasse 29, 8005 Zürich/ZH
044 271 05 03

Brocki-Land Zürich AG

Steinstrasse 68, 8003 Zürich/ZH
044 461 11 84

Caritas Zürich

Birmensdorferstrasse 53, 8004 Zürich/ZH

Re: Seek coriander

I get coriander (Koriander) from my local CO-OP. It's usually above the salad section in a small plastic box.

As for pots and pans, try the Brockenhaus in Zürich, it's about a 5 min walk from HB. http://www.zuercher-brockenhaus.ch/

Me too (I usually go to the COOP in MaxBill Plaza). Try some decent sized coop and you won't have problems. They are usually near the salad section where they have also basil, mint, kaffir lime leaves, thai chilis, lemon grass a,d fresh vegetables and herbs mixes for Thai dishes (all of the Betty Bossi foodline).

Ah, coriander. All asian stores in Zurich have it. Cost about 1.50 for a bunch. Migro has it too...look for the fresh herb rack, it is in little sealed bags (not frozen)
There is a huge asian market somewhere in Oerklion, sure fire to find some there.

At the Zurich HB by the Sihlquai exit is an Asian store...I got mine from there.

Re: Seek coriander

There is an Asian store (Asiaway) by the tram stop Sternen Oerlikon and Berninastrasse - they normally have it. Also I have found that Turkish stores will carry it (a lot) for only 1.50 CHF. Last summer I went to the Saturday market in Oerlikon and just bought a plant for 2 or 3 CHF. I found this worked the best because I had it available when I wanted it, the same with basil. If you use it often this might be your best choice since the ones sold at Coop and Migros only last a few days.

Re: Seek coriander

The Saturday Flea Market at Kanzlei (Helvetiaplatz Tram Stop on Linie 8) has some stalls selling second hand pots and pans. You should be able to pick up a classic 1970's saucepan for around Chf 10.

Re: Seek coriander

You can find coriander at some Migros and Coop stores, but I would not recommend buying coriander from there - it's called coriander but does not really taste like coriander (if you know what I mean).

You will find authentic coriander at the Asian grocery stores, some which are mentioned above. I often go the one mentioned in Maria's post (at Zurich HB at the Sihlquai exit), and the same grocer can be found at Oerlikon train station. There is also an Asian grocer at Berninastrasse tram stop.

Otherwise, the food hall in Jelmoli and Globus also sell authentic coriander.

Re: Seek coriander

You can find it at Asian food stores. I have also bought it many times at Coop, where the fresh herbs are. The small Coops might not carry it, try the bigger ones.

Re: Seek coriander

While we're on the subject, could anyone tell me where I might purchase Sudanese blister beetle powder?

I prefer ready-ground, but rough cut would be acceptable. I have tried the Co-op and Migros, and some of the Asiatic stores, but haven't had any luck so far.

I did manage to buy some fresh(ish) coriander this afternoon, though, in the Co-op under Stadelhofen station. It was in the chiller cabinet, with the parsley, chives and so on, in a little clear plastic box. I couldn't seem to find any lemongrass, though. Nor, indeed, the aforementioned powder.

How I miss the Belgrave Road!

Re: Seek coriander

It's still too cold now, but when it gets warmer you'll be able to buy the actual coriander plants, which is much better value. Keep your eyes open at the markets (Bürkliplatz etc.) or even Migros and Coop. (or perhaps the Asian stores )
