No but I've been to many with identi-kit menus.
I don't want to eat that stuff - it's dull. If a menu doesn't entice me, I doubt the food will.

When we go to Zurich, we only go to restaurants that serve the local specialties, as that's exotic for us.
And there are plenty of great places for such fare in Zurich.

| | Re: Food in Zurich? Plain mediocre | Quote: | | | | | This was voted by restaurant visitors. El Celler de Can Roca in Spain came first in the same awards. This came second in Michelin's list.
So yes, not the Michelin lst, but not entirely invalid I'm sure you'd agree. | | | | | Of course different rankings will show differences placements, no doubt.
However, #1, #6 and #8 have only two Michelin stars each, which places them at best at about #110 as there are more than hundred 3starred restaurants.
In my eyes this degree of difference relativizes the claimed objectivity of food quality measurement quite a bit.

Would you still eat at that restaurant? Perhaps in Eastern Europe in the seventies, when you just need to eat, yes?*
The kind of stuff in the restaurants you like is nursery food that we serve our kids when they want a break from something a bit more grown-up.
But hey, you're Swiss so of course you want to defend your food culture.
*But it's not like that now though. There's some seriously amazing food there.

I have actually been to Knonehalle, trumpeted as a must go culinary delight...frankly I found it awful, just marginally better than canteen food (have they've heard of food presentation?). It was a party of 3 and we were all appalled, the bill just tipped over 400chf...a place like this stripped of its valuables decorating the walls would be a 2/10 at best, considering the art its still a 2/10 as that didnt make our meal any better.

| | Re: Food in Zurich? Plain mediocre | Quote: | | | | | Compared to any other major city in the world, the choice for eating here is thin on the ground. So that takes out the competitiveness among restaurants, meaning they are often overpriced and of a half decent standard.
Saying that, there are good restaurants, its just finding them that takes a bit of work. I have started not to share my finds as they then become more popular and then its either harder to get a table or after few good reviews on Trip advisor they decide to put up the prices.
Apparently only three in ten restaurants make it past the first year in London! | | | | | unfortunately i had a food biz in London that didn't go past its 2nd year. Its a tough biz environment, overheads are usually the first and last nail in the coffin. I've heard that only 1 in 10 restaurants in London survive past year 3...not a great statistic...but I guess those that make it really make it big.

Some posts in this thread... And I thought I have a problem enjoying simple things in life... I am mentally throwing eggs at the OP for even starting such a depressing thread.

I'd largely agree with the sentiment. Surely nobody goes to Kronehalle for the food? Atmosphere, yes. Tourist spotting, yes. Downing beer whilst eating sausage, yes. But Food, no. There are plenty of much better places for traditional Swiss food.

Anyways if you want to insult anybody for his taste in food or his origins feel free to do so, but please do it with a PM...

| | | | | Same as my wife then. And she feels the same way as I do about the food in restaurants here.
And we both love Italian food. | Quote: | | | | | Anyways if you want to insult anybody for his taste in food or his origins feel free to do so, but please do it with a PM... | | | | | Why? We both like different foods? So what?

And why did you find most restaurant food failed to reach them?
Furthermore, do you mean food from most restaurants? Or most food from a few restaurants?
