Drinkable distilled water
 

Hello,

Does anyone know where I can buy distilled water which is drinkable in Swiss Romand? I've checked all the big supermarkets, and there are plenty of mineral water selections. But have not yet found distilled water (boiled and removed/distilled of impurities). There is distilled water for cleaning, but that is not drinkable. That's not what I'm looking forward, I'm looking for drinkable distilled water. Would appreciate any suggestions.

Why would you want to drink distilled water when the tap water is great? Not mentioning the amount of good sparkling and still waters you can buy?

Yes, Swiss tap water is great. I normally drink that.
I just need the distilled water for a medical reason. Doc says I should use distilled water as it has less impurities - and any tap water that goes through a hot water heater accumulates even more impurities.
If anyone knows where I can find distilled water which is drinkable, look forward to hearing from you.

Buy a water filter maybe? Britta water filters are relatively cheap.
But maybe check with your dr as well. I have never heard of any medication that could not be taken with the normally good water here in Switzerland. Maybe he can recommend something?

Distilled water for drinking purpose, never heard about that(here in switzerland).
The price is very high (compared to tap water), the taste is .....

There is a market in south east asia for this product, but not here in switzerland.

You can buy your own distiller, it's better than buying distilled water all the times.

Thorougly stir together two parts of hydrogen and one part of oxygen, ignite the mixture and BANG, you have the cleanest water you can ever get.

What kind of doctor, in which country?
I'm somehow tempted to doubt that a doctor in Geneva told you to drink distilled water. On the off-chance they did I'd suggest asking them to recommend a brand..... like you I've only ever found it here for things such as ironing, so I'm wondering if you've not misunderstood and the doctor's actually simply suggesting bottled water for whatever reason?

Tap water in Switzerland is perfectly drinkable, unlike in many other countries in the world, otherwise you could try Evian or Volvic, they're pretty bland.

Distilled water is distiller water, why you think you can't drink distiller water is as bizarre as wanting to drink it in the first place.

I think it depends on the source of the water used for distillation. There could still be some impurities present. So if from an industrial source, maybe a bit dodgy?

Mercola http://gmc.yoyogames.com/public/styl...fault/duck.gif says any kind of distilled water will kill you, so it's almost certainly entirely safe.

If it's distilled, it's irrelevant where it came from.... The toilet would be a fine source your taking & condensing the steam at 100 degrees :D

Distiller water can kill you because there is nothing that hold it in your body. All those delicious "impurities" are what your body uses to make the water actually useful. You can drink liters of distiller water & become dehydrated.

Sorry, although that Mercola article isn't entirely wrong, much of it is hogwash because many points made can be very easily misconstrued, as so often in Mercola's publications. And some are downright wrong, as usual.

For instance, I very much doubt that cola beverages are made with distilled water (why the heck should they?!? It would raise the production costs tremendously without the slightest benefit), and the loss of electrolytes they can trigger in absolutely extreme cases is mainly caused by the orthophosphoric acid they contain and not by the water.

Tap water contains a small amount of electrolytes. Distilled water can be turned in ordinary water by just adding those electrolytes; they normally abound in the human body anyway. The other "impurities" do not really matter much for health, neither in good nor in bad ways.

So, if distilled water isn't the absolutely sole source of water for your body, there's not much of a problem, because the important electrolytes can be provided by many sources. Extreme fasting while drinking only distilled water and nothing else could kill you indeed, but I don't think that's what the OP means.

On the other hand, although drinking distilled water isn't exactly a risk, I do not see the slightest reason for doing it.

I can't fathom for the life of me why someone would want to drink distilled water in Switzerland of all places, and why a doctor (agree with Anjela- certainly not a Swiss doctor) would recommend it- but hey ho, guys- this is none of our business, surely and the OP's prerogative. I would defo go with the distilling gadget posted above as buying distilled water would be prohibitively expensive here. Interesting website btw.

Not according to this. Distillation removed many impurities, but not all. Which is kind of obvious. I think it is reasonably well known, for example, that alcohol purified through distillation is something like 96% pure - the majority of the remainder being water, and you can't through that process do better. Any liquids with lower boiling points than water in the stuff you're distilling from will be in your distillate, and you will also get some vapour from liquids with higher boiling points. I think I covered this in 'O' level chemistry.

There's the Mercola view, and as usual, it's 99% pure distilled twaddle. The author betrays a deep ignorance of biological processes, and two of the references she gives are for her own books... follow the money... That author's qualifications (unlike the link above) are nowhere to be found.

Quite. Of course technically all water "contains" distilled water. Dihydrogen monoxide, anyone? :rolleyes:

Isn't desalinated water distilled water? And isn't that being drinked in some places? Perhaps they add stuff back in? If it's only for a short time couldn't the OP just drink the distilled water in the cleaning section of the super market?

I'm also curious why a doctor would recommend drinking partly distilled water. What about mixing 2/3 distilled, 1/3 tap water?

Assuming you are referring to Dr. Mercola's article, I just want to let you know that her full name is Joseph. M. Mercola. Needless to say that that doesn't make things any better.

I have yet to find out what that "M." stands for, probably Mercenary of Quackery or sumpin.
