Fresh Turmeric in Switzerland
 

Hello all!
I have been desperately looking for fresh turmeric root in Switzerland (not the powdered form that you find in Migros or Coop). It's also called Kurkuma or Curcuma. I've tried the New Asia Market in Zurich as well as a few other health food stores but I can't find anything. Any help would be appreciated! (I've attached a photo of it so you know what it looks like)

Asia Store in Zurich HB has it. I've bought it there before, in the refrigerated section.

I believe most of the big asian groceries sell fresh tumeric.
You can try Lian Hua:

Hi guys are the Zürich places mentioned in this thread still stocking fresh Turmeric?

I went to Barkats yesterday and was pretty surprised that I couldn't find it. :confused:

I will check this next time... so surprised Barkats didn't seem to have it though!

I‘ve seen it in a variety of different places - coop often has it, Asian stores, sometimes Farmy and sometimes alnatura.

I‘m not sure about the seasonality of it, though. I‘ve seen it often, just not all the time.

Another place to look, if you‘re in Zurich might be jelmoli.

I am in Zürich. I find fresh turmeric in the big Coops (bio, with the vegetables). And also in the Alnatura shops (e.g. Löwenstrasse). In Alnatura, it is not packaged in pastic, a little bonus ;-)

There's also fresh turmeric (organic quality) available at Farmy.ch (online market). Don't know about the turmeric, but in general they have very good quality products.

I saw some a few days ago in the Alnatura Bio Super Markt healthfood store in the Illuster mall in Uster.

Yep, I bought in in Lidle last week. Which I thought was pretty cool. Then again, I find LIdl's fruit and veggie stand pretty cool each time I cross town to get to it.

Lidl sell fresh turmeric, I tried it for the first time the other week and have now used it twice. I am never buying it again. :mad:

While it looks and smells lovely, it is evil incarnate. It put an industrial strength layer of yellow over anything it comes into contact with, mainly my hands, cooking implements and blended. It appears to only be removed after removing several layers of the skin or surface that it becomes bonded to. I will report back if my dishwasher can get it off of my blender. :o

From now on, I am buying dried turmeric only. :msnshock::msncry::D

Aparently it is the magic strong color in turmeric that is so healthy (anticarcinogen and all the other stuff).

Dry the stained garment in the sun and it will go.
