how to prepare an artichoke (for roasting)

Artichokes are just now coming into season! The best ones come from Italy, but the early season varieties are often on the smaller side with tough leaves. The interior, however, is quite tasty and excellent when roasted! We recently made a short video on how to prepare an artichoke for roasting, which we invite you to watch if the topic is of interest to you...

That is just the 'coeur' d'artichaut- but you can also cook the whole thing, once you've taken the tougher outer leaves, and pull leaves one by one once cooked and dip the fleshy part into mayonnaise or other dip and suck off the soft flesh. The popular and much simpler way to eat artichokes.

Re: how to prepare an artichoke
I do love a good artichoke. Somewhere I read that in contains certain chemicals which stimulate the salivatory glands, so I literally water at the mouth for them. And once you start eating them, you just want more!

Just a personal fetish :P

You can also eat them raw.

Re: how to prepare an artichoke
Did you hear about the cut-price hitman, Arty, who was contracted to kill a clients wife? He was simply told she would be wearing a brown coat and carrying a black handbag whilst out shopping at the supermarket. He subsequently found his mark and strangled her in the dry-goods section. On his way out, he saw a second woman fitting the description at the fruit counter, so decided to deal with her too, to be on the safe side. Unfortunately for him, he was arrested whilst trying to make his getaway. The headline in the next day's paper was ...

"Arty chokes two for a pound in Tescos"
