Molasses? That's not a Yorkshire thing, surely? Mind you, I'm from Barnsley, so what do I know?
Hello!
I suppose not, but as I said in an earlier post, the molasses sugar is for a spiced chutney that I'm making.....I was born in Sheffield by the way, but have relatives in Deepcar, not so far from Barnsley!

And the Parkin recipe. For treacle content I usually do 3/4 golden syrup 1/4 black treacle but you can adjust that depending on your preferences.
Recipe noted. Baking commences Thursday. I knew I'd bought that black treacle and golden syrup last time I was in the UK for a reason. Must be some kind of ancestral call....

You can get black treacle (Tafelmelasse) in the jam section at Migros.

I am sure my Nana's treacle tart had desiccated coconut in it, can't remember it having oats.

There's a small range of foreign stuff in the Bottmingen coop (next to Batteriestrasse on the 10/17 line). If I remember correctly, it has Lyle's Golden Syrup.

It's traditionally made with breadcrumbs, I guess the oats and possibly coconut versions are variations on that. I've never had treacle tart with coconut myself but I'm going to see if I find a recipe for it now as it sounds rather interesting.

It was a very long time ago but I have had both with breadcrumbs and with oats and neither were right. I used to spend most of my summers in the late 60's and 70's with them in rural Suffolk. Grandad was a gamekeeper and they lived in a lovely gate lodge with minimal kitchen but had a proper larder which was always full of good stuff and smelled wonderful.

My job was to collect the eggs in the morning and then Nana would boil one for me to have with soldiers. Have never been able to eat supermarket eggs since. An incredibly simple but beautiful childhood which I remember very fondly, even the road burns from falling off the go kart that the local blacksmith had made for us. I could go on and on but you good folk have stuff to do.
