recipes for fastest non fast-food dish?

I would say that this is the about the fastest non fast-food that you can get, while still being a delicious and filling warm dish -

1. Chop a cauliflower and start steaming it.
2. Put olive oil in a frypan, add chick peas, and cook on light heat.
3. Add your favorite curry powder
4. Shake in garlic powder (e.g. Migros garlic powder), dried onion bits (e.g. Migros again), cumin seeds, ginger.
5. Or see this excellent EF thread about spices if you are not necessarily aiming to save seconds on cooking time ... ***The Great Big Indian Cooking Thread***
6. When the cauliflower is softening, throw it in the pan, stir it round to get coated with the oil and spices. Serve up.

Absolutely delicious. I think that takes about 7 mins. If anyone can beat it with a warm and filling fast non fast-food dish, please jump in!

Add Gnocchi to boiling water. When they float on the surface like dead beetles, ready to serve. Supplement with salt, seasoning, sauce, veg, onions, garlic, bacon, ham, spices, herbs, oil, butter, cream and whatever you like.

Takes about five minutes to prepare, about a quarter of an hour to eat. njoy!

well, sort of ... don't want to seem picky but gnocchi is pre-prepared food. you either made it yourself in which case it took time, or bought it in which case it's full of the usual ingredient X so that it can sit in the supermarket for a while without going mouldy...

Heat pan. When hot, throw in steak. Cook 1 to 1.5 mins per side. Top with olive oil, shavings of parmesan and rucola.

5 minute meal. Yum!

Re: recipes for fastest non fast-food dish?

Quick and only one dish (the bowl)

Pseudo-ramen

Take a large soup bowl, dissolve some miso paste (or dried sachet) in boiling water for the desired amount of broth, drop in a package of glass or rice noodles, add some sliced spring onion, greens (eg baby spinach leaves) or any veg you like, half a cooked egg (I keep a few in fridge) and any leftover meat/fish or tofu. Torn Cilantro or basil on top and you've got a meal. 4 minutes max, no pot to clean.

Re: recipes for fastest non fast-food dish?

Take sashimi tuna and salmon bought at the fish market.*

Pour soy sauce in small bowl.

Take out chopsticks.

Eat.

*Some folks buy it uncut and cut it themselves, I have the guys at the market cut it for me because they know what they are doing and do a much better job.

EDIT: darn! You said "warm". Above not warm. But suggestion remains

Re: recipes for fastest non fast-food dish?

Dinner of a lazy mum

Boil pasta in a pan. When pasta is ready, drain the water away. Shred a few pieces of ham, grate cheese and add to the pan of pasta. I sometimes grate a carrot in as well to add a bit of colour. Depending on the pasta, this dish takes between 5 to 10 mins to prepare.

Bon appétit!

Yes, but you should place the steak on top of the rucola, not the rucola on top of the steak!

i actually don't bother with anything other than the steak. I was pretending it was a 'complete' meal. I didn't want to shock the sensibilities of the 'balanced diet' brigade.

Well, I like rucola, and with all the bloody juices leaking onto it, who needs salad sauce?

Re: recipes for fastest non fast-food dish?

Cut a 2" hole in the middle of a slice of toastbread, lay 3 slices of Bacon in the frypan, lay the bread on the bacon, crack an egg and pour it into the middle of the bread. Pepper, Muscat, salt on top.

Mum called this "Frog in the hole"

Steak is my favorite food. I thought I could eat steak every day... Until I moved to Argentina. The I realized that I really couldn't.

When I was a student I used to eat canned tuna from the can, or tinned green beans from the tin. There you go. Two 30 second meals. Though not warm so is totally off topic.

Tom is now horrified at how bad a "cook" I am. Why am I on this thread exactly?!

I guess if we get to the point of discussing ingredient labels then the point of the thread, which was to share healthy recipes of basic ingredients, already got lost. But for the record - Migros chickpeas contain chickpeas/salt/water, Migros garlic powder contains - garlic, Coop (sorry it's Coop, not Migros) onion bits contain - onion.

Yes I could soak chick peas overnight, I could have fresh garlic and onions and ginger root around. And I do it when I have time. But fast recipes are interesting to some people who don't have much time in the evening but still don't want processed food.
