It's that time of year again!

Just out of the oven but not to be tasted until Christmas! Smells good! Of course I need to feed it between now and then.

It is my Christmas cake and between now and the week before Christmas I will "feed" it with a dribble of alcohol each week. Sherry or Brandy. I don't like mine too booze so not too much. :)

Have put the fruit in to soak with a “little” brandy :D ready for mixing and baking tomorrow.

It got me thinking though, and I discussed with OH whether this year we want a Xmas pudding too or not? I am travelling to visit Mother in November so will have the opportunity to buy either suet to make my own or else a ready made pud ( more likely option).

BUT, if I bought the suet and it was beef suet, would it count towards my meat ration and indeed if my pud has animal origin suet, how is that calculated? Interesting conundrum :confused:

Thanks for the timely reminder!!

I want to make one this year too, but of course would've forgotten about that until it was too late...yet again!!.

It is a promise I made to myself to once serve my family a Chrimbo Pudding with brandybutter . It will be something new for all of us. But since everyone loves my mincemeat and the pies, I presume they'll love such a cake too!!

I use the recipe from my Delia Smith book.

Makes a really nice cake, the only difference when I make it is that I also soak the fruit for a good 24/48 hours (depending on how dry they were) in English tea as well as the brandy. I also just use mixed fruit bought in the U.K. and add a few nuts. Mixing it up and baking this afternoon. Fingers crossed everyone!

I'll start mine tomorrow, have everything but currants in stock at home. I'll let you know how it turns out. It is a long time since I wanted to make one, and sort of always forgot in the hubbub around Rexmas :) only to remember it about a week before the event. NOT this year :)

I am about to start too, well the fruits are soaking now.

Now a maybe stupid question, Delia mentions the 'feeding' too but no amount of how much brandy:D:D

So I presume, once a week 4-5tblsp of Brandy should be ok ? Or is this too little or too much??

I think 1 Tblsp per week of Cognac is enough.

It is really up to you how often and how much. I feed once every 2 weeks and just one or two tablespoons. I really do not like it too boozy.

My first home made British Chrimbocake ever :D thanks for the timely reminder countrybumpkin

1 hour baking time already down, 3 more to go.... slowly but surely lovely smells start wafting around in the flat . Hope the result will be good!

Don’t forget to keep opening your front door so the lovely smell can permeate through the whole building :D. Then try to explain why you are making a cake now that you have no intention of eating until Christmas, my neighbours love the smell but really do not understand the concept :)

I think it turned out the way it should. No use of making neighbours jealous, I live on top floor if the appt. block ;) We are all looking forward to try it, it will be one element on the dessert plate for my big X-Mas meal
