The best 'Italian' coffee I have had outside of Italy has been in Australia. They know what they are talking about with regards to coffee and these machines are testimony to that.
Of course, if one was to spend a lot more, then they'd be looking at another sort of machine altogether.

| | Re: Coffee Machine recommendation ? | Quote: | | | | | I'd never buy one of those DeLonghis with the milk compartment - far too much effort in washing those out every day (or more frequently?) | | | | | Well, imo those milk compartments should be washed soon after you use this function, otherwise you can have some nasty forms of life developing there.
It's tedious, I agree. We don't use it that often, though I absolutely love Cappuccinos and lattes, just because of this reason.
Anyways, the other brand (Breville) many people here seem to love seems rather expensive already. I suppose it all boils down to how much one is disposed to spend for this little luxuries.
We're going to keep our DeLonghi as long as we can. After that, who knows, we might decide on going to the next level..

It seems a lot of money, you're right but we're both spending a lot less per month then those with those Nespresso machines.

Before I bought my machine, I had already calculated we were previously spending 1000 CHF annually for pods - easy to do the math from there in terms of the investment longterm

I am starting to feel anachronistic. Is anyone else using the French press or coffee drip?

Zuriga! Great coffee machine invented in Zürich. Love the machine to death. Can't start the day without it! Does best with a grinder. We bought a GILDA grinder, swiss ingeneering - but they have also their own grinder.
My sister bought one, too and is happy. Not cheap, but very easy to clean. https://zuriga.coffee/ch-de/kaffeemaschinen-muehlen/ | This user would like to thank marischi for this useful post:

Use a crap bean, even with the ne plus ultra of coffee machinery, and you'll get a crap result.
Personal preferences vary, of course, and some folk may have different preferences for morning or evening, for example (and that can slightly complicate things with the full automat jobbies), but I immediately discount the opinion of anyone who puts milk in their coffee, as it's anathema to me and clearly indicates a completely different mindset on what makes a good coffee, and by extension, the perfect machine.

Only it's not a French press, it's "only" filter coffee (not bashing it).
This is a French press coffee pot, we also just call it "Bodo-coffee" - a bit like hoover became a verb, Bodo took over in these things. I still have one and used it while my espresso machine was down. |

It seems to me that nobody really uses them, that's what made me post..I like the manual aspect of both. I.understand why machines are popular.

I'm not saying it's not a great machine -obviously you say it is but 'designed' might be a better word than 'invented' which suggests some novel and unique design.

It's small and easy to use, and the coffee is...predictable? Nespresso is my go-to at work instead of paying for the cafeteria coffee, which costs 3x more and is made with worse-than-crap beans.

For the record, I have plain espressos, caffe macchiatos, sometimes cappuccinos and quite often at the weekends for breakfast, - a large cup of coffee brewed with a cafetiere and with some milk.
What you wrote sounds like one of those grumpy old men who states that a meal isn't a meal unless it includes meat, potatoes and two veg.
I may be wrong, but that's how it came across to me.

Besides, any real man knows, that there is no vegetable in a meal. It's 2 servings of meat, extra gravy and then some bacon for the vitamins. Noob. | The following 2 users would like to thank lost_inbroad for this useful post:

It seems a lot of money, you're right but we're both spending a lot less per month then those with those Nespresso machines. | | | | | Actually it was about 750 chf a few years ago when we bought it.
But you're right about your machine, that Breville model is not so much more expensive than my current one. I looked at a different Breville model by mistake and was taken aback by the prices. As far as my budget goes: under one thousand francs - OK, above that - not OK.
I know, I have read other posts here and they're probably right, if you look at long term benefits and savings it's worth investing in something really expensive...I just have a....psychological problem with that...I'm "cheap"..
My espresso is so good, I'm having one right now and I'm planning the second one pretty soon... I have a real problem with the quantities of coffee that I drink throughout the day and caffeine excess can get me a bit hyper. Perhaps striving for perfection hence buying the next level thinggy in coffee making might be not really indicated in my case...lol | Quote: | | | | | Zuriga! It was Ace1 being pretentious. My post was counter to that and actually in agreement with yours.

So - what is everybody drinking right now?
Yes, you can own up to milk, enough with the coffee-battles
I got some Denner ground coffee in my Bodum with Denner fat milk. It is the highest on caffeine, a big mood booster too. A cardio of sorts. Coffee machines are cool (aesthetically) but expensive and do not smell like machine oil, unlike other machines I like. Plus the capsules really feel unecolo to me, we are actively reducing our garbage volume, especially of plastic. Even the art made of used capsules is...unimpressive. There is a different smell of coffee not made in a machine, I guess I like it.
The milk is used to avoid my stomach being hit with pure coffee, before breakfast. I don't care either way, prefer without diary.

Who ever knew that a splash of black paint was so expensive?
It doesn't have a milk steamer either.
However, it does have a aluminium boiler internally coated with titanium rather than a brass or aluminium boiler alone and so heats up rapidly without the problems of aluminium boilers alone.

The cafetiere is not glass but double-walled stainless steel (I broke so many glass ones) purchased a few years ago in Portmerion, Wales.
The coffee is LaSemuse Mocha.

Who ever knew that a splash of black paint was so expensive? | | | | | I did. Coz stains don't show. Like in dark kitchens, brrrr. Who wants to cook in a dungeon. It is quite en vogue, though.
