I wrote several replies before I chose the one that appeared least condescending and that I hoped wouldn't prompt another set of silly questions.

Hence the helpful suggestion to warm and froth the milk in an alternative fashion.
Now that Richdog has made the momentous discovery that coffee made from freshly ground shredded coffee beans is indescribably better than that made from pre-packaged pods, he is branching out into the wonderful world of milk froth assessment.

There are only two reasons to find heating milk in a microwave abhorrent. Ignorance (leading to tinfoil-hattery), and.... Nope, just one reason.
I strongly suggest that you never venture into the kitchen of even the most upmarket kitchens. It could be too much for your constitution.

And the end is nowhere near: Now I need cappuccino cups, definitely, nice bulbous cups with a big surface for my milk-foam. <sigh>

They are sold as teacups but we use these at our weekender for cappuccinos. If you'd like an extra-oversized cup, there's also this. Both hold coffee remarkably well and the great news is, they're future-proof: they can go in the microwave as well as the dishwasher!
Or you can supersize, to the extra-huge French-style hot chocolate breakfast bowl/cups, for overwhelming amounts of foamed milk.
ETA: Or maybe that larger size that I linked is the supersized version. I can't tell, they all look the same to me and I don't have mine to hand to measure.

They are not what I 100% subjectively perceive as being in the spirit of food or drink production and in the end I gain zero enjoyment or satisfaction from using it, something which matters to me in my culinary life. It doesn't bother me and I don't give it a second thought, so there is no reason why it should bother you either. |

Electric and gas stoves, and other such modern inventions, aren't really in the spirit either. There's nothing like a good cycad and fernleaf fire for the preparation of roasted diprotodon!

Well the ones you linked are not my cup of tea I'm more into simple, straight lines. But thanks.
I already got a couple of super-sized ones but they really are huge = not always appropriate. I'll just keep my eyes open. I looked for espressi-cups for a long time and found some really lovely ones ...... in the Turkish shop. For peanuts. Never saw the exact same type again in that shop since, guess I was really lucky.

Ok, update:
Finally figured out what is causing my MF (Milk Frother) issues. My MF switc, when switched on, initially feels like it has stopped fully. However, whether a design flaw or not, you can afterwards actually twist it a bit further and then it starts reliably hissing out the steam.
As a result, combined with my watching the Youtube MF tips videos, I have now got to the stage where I can reliably and consistently churn out a decent cappucino. I am grinding enough coffee for 2 days and sealing it in a small airtight spice jar (clean and fresh 22y, no spice residues ) to minimise my morning inconvenience.
Also ordered a set of these bad boys https://www.amazon.co.uk/BODUM-4559-.../dp/B00076ZD36
All in all, now extremely happy and looking forward to getting my milk frothing jug and manual burr grinder to get more taste and practise some milk art. | The following 2 users would like to thank Chuff for this useful post: | |
