In Zurich for 1 day - where to eat/drink (bonus - what to see)

I haven't been in Zurich in a long time (2 years and before that 10 years earlier).

I'm bringing someone who has never been to Switzerland before, does anyone have recommendations where to eat/drink and what specifically to see. We will only be around for a day.

that depends so much on what kind of person you (and your friend) are - and of the weather too.

If your friend has never been to Zurich before, try http://www.zeughauskeller.ch/home
You can order a meter long sausage or meat on a sword.
It is a touristy place, but food is very nice and the place does look swiss-authentic.
Or this one: http://restaurant-blockhus.ch
Been to both, enjoyed food and interior very much. Will be taking our friends to either of these when they visit.

If you want to eat in a Restaurant that is a great neighbourhood place, no tourists - but some expats who live in the neighbourhood. http://www.tuefi.ch.

Most dishes are organic and I just love their Leberli mit Röschti (liver with hash brown). But there's lot's more.

It is located in the Seefeld quarter, close to the lake. Take tram no.2 or nr.4 direction Tiefenbrunnen and get out at Fröhlichstrasse.

Agree that it all depends on what kind of people you are and what you're after. I'd definitely get on a bike and explore. On a sunny day, it's a fab option. You can rent a bike for free. Here's how: https://www.zuerich.com/en/visit/sport/zurich-on-wheels You can then follow a few path, for example the one offered in a tour here: https://www.zuerich.com/en/visit/tou...city-bike-tour

Great recommendations so far, thank you very much!

Any recommendations for must-see sights?

We are laid back people open to doing whatever.

Re: In Zurich for 1 day - where to eat/drink (bonus - what to see)

If you're at the Zeughauskeller, the Lindenhof is close by and worth a visit. It offers a nice view on the Limmat, Limmatquai, the Niederdorf, Grossmünster and the areas "behind" (ETH and University main buidlings, Zürichberg).

Another "trip" would be to use Polybahn (a funicular that runs from the Central [immediately next to Starbucks] up to ETH main building) to get from Central to the Polyterrasse, which also offers a nice view (it's more or less across the Limmat from Lindenhofplatz).

Walk back down thru some very old parts of Zürich to the Niederdorf, or take the Tram towards Bellevue on the opposite side of the ETH main building (on workdays you can enter and walk thru, not sure about Saturdays).

Alternatively, instead of taking Nr. 9 to Bellevue, you could take Nr. 9 for 3 stops in the other direction to the Rigiblick (or skip the Polyterrasse and take Nr. 10 Tram from Central, it's just 5-6 stops), hop on the funicular of the same name (the next best thing to a real mountain funicular) to the top. The following half-hour walk to the Dolder Grand offers a very nice view on Rigi mountain if the weather is fine, some say you can even see the Matterhorn top if the air is very clean. Have a hot chocolate at the Dolder Grand, take the Dolderbahn (it's next to the hotel) to Römerhof, and you're back in the city center with just a few more Tram stops.

Of course you could combine it all to one roundtrip
