Ebli Enly or bulgar wheat

Just spent 2 weeks in Argau Kantonal Spital eating 3 meals a day - which was a total shock to my digestive system. No beer in sight.
The food was really basic and tasty. I am a diabetic and therfore got more meat and less pasta than the other patients (shame).
3 times they served ebli - it is like boiled then fried puffed wheat - like bulgar wheat.
I loved the taste of this - together with goulash or chicken on a stick with sauce.
Just been down the local Migros and bought a packet of ebly - the trade name for this.
Anyone know how to cook this properly?
Soak and fry?

Sort of like rice. 2 parts water to 1 part Ebly, cook for 10 min until water is absorbed.

They make a great cold salad, cook the ebly and while they are cooling chop some peppers, fry some bacon and chop that, add some peas and corn. Aromat and Mayo. Done.

If you cook the Ebly in chicken or veg broth they liven up a bit more.

Re: Ebli Enly or bulgar wheat

My wife has a rice cooker. two to one like she does her rice. Looks like this is the best way. Then fry in a pan with all the bits and pieces and olive oil.
Then serve with meat and gravy.
Not even home yet and I am getting hungry
Thanks for the feedback - think this is going to become a regular habit. Good for my blood sugar also

Re: Ebli Enly or bulgar wheat

Maybe if any mods are reading this they can edit the title. Ebli Ebly not Ebli Enly.
Cheers

Just ran across this: https://www.ebly.com/recipes

I use Ebly instead of rice about half the time a recipe calls for rice. They don't work very well with white fish like Sole or Pangasius, but they're fine in Paella type things.

Cubed chicken, fried with a cream and garlic sauce with sweet peas is lovely.

Re: Ebli Enly or bulgar wheat

Seems a very versatile product.
I am not quite sure about the sweet aspects - but i never thought that deep fried Mars bars would taste good until I tried them.
Tonight I am going down the roast pork, Braten sauce (OK Bistro), Ebli/Ebly and mushy peas route - but I am from Lancashire.

Will wait till my wife gets home - she is the boss of the rice cooker.

Thanks for the link

Love it - plain instead of rice- in Taboulé like salads, stir frys, soups, etc, etc. So fast and healthy- and our grandkids just love it too.

Re: Ebli Enly or bulgar wheat

It's a nightmare in our canteen - the stuff gets literally everywhere, meaning I have to go to the salad bar instead.
