Does anyone know where I can buy baking soda? I couldn't find anything using keyword "Backsoda"
Try Globus or Jelmoli, I can normally find most things for baking that aren't in coop or migros there. On the pricey side though

Another German name [for baking soda] is Natron.
fixed

Or more scientific Natriumhydrogencarbonat or Natriumbicarbonat.

Whereas Natriumcarbonat is in German called Soda . Known in English as Sodium carbonate or washing soda!!

Re: Where to buy baking soda?

I've found larger boxes of Arm & Hammer baking soda in several Indian markets in Zürich. It's like 3CHF for a 1/2 lb box vs the 3CHF for those tiny envelopes from Coop/Migros.

Re: Where to buy baking soda?

Like everyone has been saying, it is either in small packets in Migros/Coop or in bigger bags. Yesterday I found 1 large packet in Migros by the baking powder and vanilla sugar. Happy baking!

Re: Where to buy baking soda?

If you're using it as a meat tenderizer, you need to be really really careful and not add too much....otherwise the meat will take on a soapy taste. I've got some Chinese recipes with beef that call for it.

Re: Where to buy baking soda?

Just order it online and they will deliver it to your door.
CHF 2.50 for 500g.

Re: Where to buy baking soda?

If you're using it for baking, be prepared for slight differences between different baking powders. I always import the brands that I'm used to from the states since using the Nitrate packs that you can find here don't create the same quality of baked good that I'm looking for. Especially noticeable in pancakes.

Re: Where to buy baking soda?

The bigger apothekes will sell it to you super cheap. Not sure what they use it for, but I can usually get about 2 cups of it for 3chf (versus the tiny pouches at Coop/Migros). I also buy cream of tartar from them. They'll look at you like you're crazy, but in a pinch... it holds me over.
