Swiss chicken vs. foreign chicken

I don't know if it's a proper section to post this thread. And sorry if the subject has been already mentioned but I double and triple checked and I haven't seen similar.

So the matter concerns chicken or generally meat offered in Swiss shops. This one packed and raised in Switzerland is considerably more expensive than let's say German, Slovenian or Austrian one. The question is: is it really so much better, healthier, free from growth hormone etc.?
I have learned that the Swiss always will go for Swiss products, support local market, producers and so on. But do they also care what imported meat contains, do they inspect it?
As far as I know the EU also has (strict?) rules regarding feeding birds/animals and what their meat contains.
I am trying to be an aware consumer and buy/cook healthy so I know that ideally I should buy bio meat, unfortunately, cannot afford.

Do you buy only Swiss meat and do you think is better than EU meat?

Aargauer poulet is even better. It is the Angus Steak equivalent of chicken

I prefer Swiss chicken, goat, rabbit and (fresh) pork, but Italian beef and veal.

For cured pork, both Swiss and Italian are great.

Swiss chicken is on the whole a lot tastier - though to be fair we have found chicken from Lidl in France & Edeka in Germany to be pretty good too. One of the reasons for the price differences is the animal welfare laws are tougher here....

We have seen that even Migros/COOP will import chicken from Eastern Europe etc - there was something in the consumer magazines about it recently and the confusion of labelling laws etc so double check the packaging if you want Swiss chicken....

We always buy our chicken in France. Swiss chickens, when we've tried them in the past, are relatively bland and tasteless, even if you can find free-range ones, which seems not to be easy. They're also a very strange shape, almost square, although that may just be the way they've been packed.

And yes, stupidly expensive. In France expensive chickens do exist, but it's easy enough to find this quality, Label Rouge certified, free range chickens at under 5eu per kilo in Aldi, Lidl and often the more mainstream supermarkets trying to compete with them.

We eat a lot of chicken so this is quite an important issue for us.

I'm sure I read on here once that intensive animal farming wasn't allowed in Switzerland. I certainly made an effort to buy Swiss meat where I could, however it would appear I was mistaken and farming methods here are just as cruel as elsewhere.

Chicken is my favorite meat, and I find if you buy it from a good source,(such as a farm or at Manor) it tastes better than any other chicken I've ever had. It is expensive, but that is due to how well the animals are raised & I support this.

In Germany, the meat is cheap and raised cheaply. You will find that as you cook it in the pan, much more water will be released from the meat. I cannot recommend it.

In France, especially the organic chicken, is exceptional too.
