I have a confession to make

Swiss food looks perfect and everything, but ...

... sorry guys, it tastes like a s*&te.

I was trying, I was travelling trough Switzerland in hope to find something delicious or at least remotely editable, and apart from foreign imported food, I was able to find absolutely nothing. Nothing. Same tasteless cr*p everywhere. And it doesn't stop in Switzerland, it goes beyond. Last time that I was flying from London to Zurich with Swiss Air, stewardess tried to serve me with that - how it's called - CHUCHICHÄSCHTLI thing. It tastes the same way is it sounds and it sounds the same way as it looks, that is horrible. Luckily I recognised the dish (if I can call it so) and politely rejected it, saying that I'd rather jump from the plane than eat this pile of misery. Good thing was that the flight was short, otherwise I my life could be threatened with starvation. To my surprise stewardess started to crack.

I don't get this post at all. All airline food tastes terrible. Except the warm lamb salad I had on a Cross-Air flight back in 2002. Don't know what went wrong there, but it was delicious.

Used to fly Cross-Air all the time back in 1980-1990. Free Champagne and great food.

Ah, the good old days where you could drink so much free Whisky on long flights that you'd roll through the airport on arrival (no joke..)

Tom
I flew Monday-in/Friday-out between Basel and London City for the whole of 2000 with Crossair and they provided a great service - including an invitation to sit in the jump seat of a Saab 2000 for the entire flight (the steep approach into LCY was wonderful).

That was probably the last gasp of the glory days of flying before 9/11 ruined everything.

Here's a picture I found on my harddrive. It's just a raw scan from HP5 but it gives an idea. I believe it was taken with a Leica M3 and a Summarit 50/1.5 lens (both 1950s vintage):

Sure. I can't recall ever flying long-haul without copious free booze (hard liquor as well as wine), and on many intra-European flights too.

What a load of rubbish! I've never met anyone who doesn't absolutely love Chuchichäschtli. What makes me believe that this story is not true is the fact that if you flew from London to Zurich you were no doubt on a smaller narrow body jet like a A319/20 or maybe an Avro RJ100, at worst. Are you really wanting us to believe that Swiss would be able to get the wood burning stove and icecream maker in the galley of those small planes to prepare the dish?

To be fair, what with the ongoing climate of cost-cutting, Swiss might serve tinned Chuchichäschtli. Ghastly stuff, nothing like the real thing, but most of those tourists and Ausländer businessmen probably wouldn't know the difference anyway.
