Where to get Tvarog in Zurich (easter european curd cheese)

There are couple of things im missing from my home country - Poland and the most painful is not being able to buy white cheese we call twarog. As far as I know there is no polish or russian store in Zurich, any ideas where I can buy something similar? And quark/cottage cheese are definitely not a substitute

Re: Where to get Tvarog in Zurich (easter european curd cheese)

Is Twarog similar to Ricotta at all?
How salty is it?
I'm trying to "picture" it so as to recommend something similar.

not salty at all , rather mildly sour, ricotta is more sweet

The Mix Markt in Singen/Waldhut have it - not too far from Zurich.
They have lots of other yummy foods, too!

Re: Where to get Tvarog in Zurich (easter european curd cheese)

There is a Swiss producer of Kefir/Twarog and other Eastern-European dairy products which I forgot the name of but it is sold e.g. in one of the cheese shops in im Viadukt in Zurich, it is superexpensive though (like 5CHF for a small container of twarog) - I order home delivery of Polish products once in a while from Polish-shop.ch, they have a large selection.

Yes, the on-line Polish store seems to be the right address. Prices are decent, quality as well.
If you want to make "ruskie pierogi" then some Polish people use feta and the results are satisfying.

We also make pierogi from cottage cheese from Coop. I know it's not the same but if you miss them you will also go with this cheese

There's only 2 cheese shops in the Viadukt, and neither of us stock that, I just checked

From the face of it, it looks very similar to indian paneer. Not sure if it is though.

Yes, they do sell (at least from time to time) Russian Quark. A guy came in a few days ago asking for it for his Polish girlfriend. I didn't realise it was pretty much the same as twarog.

It has different names across Central and Eastern European countries (and even further away) but it's more or less the same thing. Best cheese for a cheese pie IMHO. (not cheese cake, that's a whole other story)

I use Denner séré as our tvaroh substitute. Works great. Esp. in bábovka.
