Black beans in Basel or Alsace?

Desperately seeking Cuban or Mexican type black beans - NOT refried beans - canned or dry, to make some fab Jamie Oliver recipes. No luck at the French grocery chains or Coop and Migros. Ideas? Thanks!

Re: Black beans in Basel or Alsace?

Coop has them as part of the Karma product range, in our store they are often sold out though

Re: Black beans in Basel or Alsace?

Did you check right across the border at the big Leclerc in St. Louis, international section aisles next to the Spanish and Mexican items? Should have several types.
Also can recommend El Sol AG in Allschwil (store only open limited days since primarily wholesale, but have webshop.) Can get dry in bulk bags up to 25kg, or La Costena Frijoles Negros canned.
Good luck!

Re: Black beans in Basel or Alsace?

I usually buy mine at the Indian market behind Claraplatz. They stock La Costena brand. They have a very small Mexican aisle and sometimes stock some corn tortillas.

I usually buy mine from Marktkauf just over the border. Cheap and cheerful. Also dried ones from Migros. All make a fabulous chilli.

Re: Black beans in Basel or Alsace?

They sell them at the big Migros at Bankverein. Go to the international aisle (where they sell Indian, Mexican, Turkish etc food).

Re: Black beans in Basel or Alsace?

I usually get mine from Migros near claraplatz in the mexican food section. I think they're 1.85/can. Aggarwal, the Indian store not far from there also has some for 1.70/can but I like the Migros ones better (They also have dried).
